Even though Teena Marie and Lisa Stansfield hit the R&B charts besides the pop charts, they were both white. What about pop/R&B singer Mariah Carey, is she white also? She's actually both, as her parents are interracial.

For the past 27 years, I thought that Willi One Blood who sings “Whiney Whiney” was black. I looked him up today and he’s white with dreadlocks.

Not a known artist as Lisa Fischer was a one hit wonder. And her very soulful hit was "How Can I Ease the Pain", which I just heard on the AT40 from today's date in 1991. Are you saying she's black or white? From the pictures I've seen, she looks black to me. Mike referenced this topic in the other thread. My memory is great as I remember this exchange from 6 years ago. Just need to recalibrate my brain a little it seems. Lisa Fischer is black.

For about 40 years, I thought Stevie Wonder was doing the two voices at the beginning of You Are The Sunshine Of My Life. I thought that Prince was the only male vocalist on "1999", but another member of the Revolution (in addition to Wendy and Lisa) also sang on the song. So I know this was posted 8 years ago, but I felt the need to reply: the other male singer on "1999" is Dez Dickerson, who left Prince's band after the 1999 tour. And it's actually Jill Jones, not Wendy Melvoin singing with Lisa Coleman. Wendy wouldn't join Prince until the Revolution was formed for his next album, which was of course Purple Rain. In fact, Wendy was more or less Dez Dickerson's replacement as guitarist in the band. Jill attempted a solo career in the mid-late 80's.

And don't worry, there's a post I've been meaning to reply to for years but haven't (not sure why, I guess I figured the opportunity to comment has passed).

This week's 1981 show reminded me that I thought Jesse Winchester was black.

Until today, I though Lisa Keith was black. Growing up, I thought she was, too, considering the background of music she was in.

Three non-pinned me-created threads in the Top Seven! I feel like Barry Gibb.
Oops Top Nine now. That was fast.
So how was that physically possible? I bumped a thread in the Top Seven up to #1 and my third which had been in the Top Seven moved down to #9. How does that happen with no one else posting anything?
I guess it was Top Nine in the first place. Now I feel more like 1980 Diana Ross than 1978 Barry Gibb. And of course these days Drake always has the Top 20 songs so nothing means anything anymore. It's Cryptochart! Not to be confused with Kryptochart which hangs on the refrigerator door at the Fortress Of Solitude.

When I first heard Dino on AT40 with "I Like It" back in the summer of 1989, I thought he was just another one of those black hip-hop singers. When I saw a video for that song, I was proven wrong! I am, however, surprised to learn that Dino is now in his 50s. I also thought that Rare Earth ("I Just Want to Celebrate") were a black group, but after just checking for a photo of its members via Google, and despite being involved with one of Motown's labels (the one that the group was named after), I was proven wrong! And we're STILL waiting for the remake of Yabba Dabba Honeymoon, by Dino, Pebbles and Right Said Fred. Oops that was Aba Daba Honeymoon. Oh well I wasn't even born yet.

Before the Rock Era, there was the Bedrock Era. Could the purple dinosaur from the "Yellow Submarine" video get a featured credit? What could his name be? Oh yeah, Barney! See how it all ties together? And the B side could be "Walk the Dinosaur," with Sweet Pea Rockinson singing lead.

It's weird that there are now multiple generations of kids who see these cereals in the stores and on TV commercials and have probably never seen the show. Do they wonder who are these people and animals and why are there cereals based on them?

I need to go back and look, but I think Dino hit the top 40 on the r and b singles charts at least 2 times. His first single, "24/7" was huge on the urban stations around me. Unfortunately that song would just miss the Hot 100 top 40, peaking at #42. I think he even made it to the Apollo. I remember seeing either him or Kevin Paige perform there back in the day. Paige is another one that could fall in this category, except he had a lyric in one of his two hits where he actually says the color he is: "To take, for instance, just because I'm white. They say, 'son you can't jam like that your skin is too light". Also, in 1990 I thought Nikki was a black female and not a white male for a hot minute.
