Apparently not. Guess I should have flagged it as "sarcasm" Now I feel really embarrassed.

Apparently not. Guess I should have flagged it as "sarcasm" Now I feel really embarrassed. Don't be. It's no big deal. At least now you know who the two AT40 guest hosts were--cast members from the same TV show Shadoe Stevens was a regular on at the time. Another thought about "Dave's World": Even though it did last four seasons, it was never a huge ratings hit. But just a couple of years later, another sitcom debuts about the home life of a guy who writes for a newspaper. It's first season overlapped with "Dave's World"s final season. Change the funny boss and wacky neighbor for a wacky brother and meddling parents, and you've got a smash hit that lasts for nearly a decade, nearly always in the top 10 shows, and only ends because the star wants to call it quits.

The countdown from this date back in 1976. That was the week where the Beatles came back to the Top 40 with "Got to Get You Into My Life" and the Wings were at number one with "Silly Love Songs".
Also, we had themes to TV shows in the survey from: Laverne & Shirley; Happy Days; Baretta; and, Welcome Back, Kotter.

Casey's Countdown from 6/26/93 in which he does a tribute himself to Conway Twitty. But I just heard the story I have been hoping for years to hear because of my curiosity. Casey tells how Natalie Cole fell into drugs and how she overcame them. Even though she had made a name for herself, the marquis on arenas where she was playing read "Nat King Cole's daughter is playing here tonight". It made her doubt herself even though people had been telling her that she was a talent on her own. That led her to drugs. In 1983, it was her 6 year old son who came to the rehab center and said, "Mommy, please come home". That was the inspiration she needed to finally kick the drug habit. One of my favorite soul ladies who really had a tough act to follow in her father.

AT40 1/3/04; a lot of this music is not my cup of tea.

The first half of June 13, 1987 is playing right now. I don't have the second half. Boo-hoo. Then later, I'll be playing the full countdown from this date in 1987.

Listening to the final edition of AT10 now. When you abruptly go from some other year to one in 2009 you can hear a BIG difference in his voice.

American Top 40 w/two awful guest hosts 6/18/94 Awful huh! Hey they did better than the first duo to host AT40....Hall & Oates! IMO of course. Strange hearing Shadoe introduce them before each segment. After hearing the CT40 from a year later and finding out that "Another Night" became a member of the 40-40 club (no MLB is not the only entity with such a club), 40 weeks in the top 40, I wondered if any song on this show would be around until the end of AT40. Didn't recognize any song from the last show so I guess that has not happened yet. I've never heard the Hall & Oates show. Here's my question about it as I'll hear it most likely in a little over 4 years from now. If you were into radio and could discern a good host or DJ from a bad one, are they really bad from that standpoint? Or do you (and others who've heard it) have an opinion colored by what Robs book says about their wonderful day in the studio?

I liked the show, it was ok. The other thing to remember (and yes, this had an effect) is the network it was on then. The show debuted in 1993 which was the final year the NFL was originally on CBS (and baseball also jumped at the end 93 though the way CBS treated it there was no way they were staying short of being overpaid to do so). When they bolted for Fox, many affiliates in major cities jumped too. That left CBS on stations that weren't as powerful and didn't have the reach outside of cable their previous ones did. IIRC CBS fell to 3rd or 4th among broadcast networks during this time. So maybe the show was never going to be a ratings juggernaut but that didn't help it any.

Or do you (and others who've heard it) have an opinion colored by what Robs book says about their wonderful day in the studio? I re-listened to to it recently, after only hearing it once as it originally aired. The big take-away I got is: they aren't DJs. They aren't, by nature, accustomed to long discussions about the minutae of other acts and chart factoids. Their voices seemed very 'low' in that they either get drowned out by the music or they tended to 'mumble' their dialog (some of which was obviously scripted, but it seemed like they tried to ad-lib a few zingers back-and-forth), like they weren't sure about themselves in that setting. After re-listening to the episode, I tracked down the story about it in Rob's book, which shed some light on the recording of the show, which seemed to confirm the 'discomfort' they may have had (at least, how it appeared to me as a listener) about the recording session.
