Request and Dedication, the same thing as a Long Distance Dedication.

I see. It's confusing since they don't have the full name. What was SR?

Usually "Special Report", which was an occasional segment about something noteworthy that just happened in music that didn't have a full song played in conjunction with it.

One show I have, Casey does a SR about how that year, 1989, CD's had over taken cassettes in the "CD vs Tape" war at record stores, and how the LP had gone the way of the 8-track. That most albums wern't released on LPs at all. I thought it was odd that dispite this, CT40 was still pressed onto vynl thru 89 and continuing into 1992 even. You would think all radio stations would have a cd player by then!?!?!?

Nope. According to Robs book when AT40 went to all cd, one affiliate had to drop the show because they didn't have a CD player.

You think that is the reason? Seriously?! 1 station cancelled over not having a CD player probably located in Podunk, Arkansas or someplace like that and THAT is the reason it was cancelled?! Really?!

I know the list by heart:
-Wind Beneath My Wings -Somewhere Out There -That's What Friends are For -I Will Always Love You -End of the Road -Its So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday -I'll Remember -I Will Remember You -One Sweet Day
And that about covers it.

You left out "Because You Loved Me" (seems like it was played every freaking week during the last year of CT40).

Also there was "Tears In Heaven", which was the go-to death dedication song until "One Sweet Day" came out. And, of course, "Right Here Waiting".

Also there was "Tears In Heaven", which was the go-to death dedication song until "One Sweet Day" came out. I hope they didn't put it after too many godd--m uptempo numbers. We know what Casey thought of that... More seriously, while I have never much liked Long Distance Dedications or Request and Dedications, it seems to me that the same songs were chosen over and over. Bette Midler's, Celine Dion's, or Whitney Houston's managers couldn't have placed more requests for the songs listed above.

I maintain the problem is for whatever reason both WW1 and later AMFM/Premiere versions of his shows used the same letters each week rather than have a different set. Sometimes they'd change the requested song but more often than not they didn't. So, then you are stuck reading letters that ask for songs pretty much acceptable to both CHR and AC (and later HAC) stations. If someone for instance wrote in requesting "Janie's Got a Gun" for one reason or another, it's probably not going to get read.
AT40 w/Shadoe didn't have this problem since they did only one version of the show. So there was a bit more variety in the selection.

I have a question about the Request & Dedications, and forgive me if this has already been asked - but how did Casey get letters for the LDDs for the first few shows? Really, I don't think anyone knew about the show until it started happening (I certainly didn't hear any announcements about it). One would think that he was allowed to take a few letters written to him when he was still with AT40, if not for the fact that the very first R&D was for "One Moment In Time" by Whitney Houston, a song that didn't chart until well after Casey had left the show. I wonder if that one was written by someone who had connections?
