Whoever cut down Tina Turner's "What You Get Is What You See" in the same show did a pretty obvious and clumsy job of it--and it was only in its second week in the countdown. That and "Come Go With Me", and probably others, are making me wish for Ken Martin's supersizing treatment. Ken Martin can't expand a 4 hour 1980's AT40 to 5 hours! He can't?

That and "Come Go With Me", and probably others, are making me wish for Ken Martin's supersizing treatment. That was Premiere as well, and I can only imagine what it sounded like. Since acquiring all the originals, I've pretty much stopped listening to the Premiere broadcasts. The originals certainly had their share of edits, too, but moreso in the latter years of the 3-hour era, and many throughout the late 1980s (especially 1988). I do have the original 1984 year-end countdown, but I also have Ken Martin's "expanded" version; no song edits whatsoever. Plus the skip in #28 is fixed (on both copies).

Meanwhile, anyone disappointed that the full "American Pie" in the 3/14/87 LDD wasn't played shouldn't blame Premiere. I checked the original cue sheet and the segment with it and "Lean On Me" was listed as a 9:59 running time--obviously too short to play the full eight minute song.

Ken Martin can't expand a 4 hour 1980's AT40 to 5 hours! He can't? It wouldn't be five hours long anyway. Most likely not even four and a half hours. I'm thinking 4:20 at the most.

I had read the post as Ken can't expand a show beyond four hours; he's done that before, as you mentioned. (And we got the double-dose of that in 2017 when he "supersized" the 1984 year-ender.)

On AT40: The 80's 3/21/1981: Did Premiere in Yarbourough and Peoples' "Don't Stop the Music" mash up the chipmunk-ish "You don't really wanna stop, nooooooooo, you don't really wanna stop, uh-uh!" line with the ending chorus - unless it's Watermark original.
Also on AT40: The 80's 3/21/1981: Was the omission of one line in the first AT40 Archive song "Leader of the Pack" an original Watermark edit or Premiere unexpected edit?

Was Grand Funk's "The Loco Motion" shortened to about 2 minutes on AT40: The 70's 3/30/1974 - even for a debut song? Must be Premiere's hatchet job! Unless it was an original Watermark edit 4 years before 1978 3 hour AT40 shows would mostly shorten songs before the 4 hour AT40 format was launched.

I Get Weak on the 4/9/1988 show was cut off early, something that seems to happen more often than not.
