Yep, Premiere edit. Not sure why the show wouldn't air because of said riots. And that riot in the Twin Cities of Minnesota dealed with a policeman who got fired - And that was even a few days after Minnesota cancelled its annual 12 days before Labor Day Minnesota State Fair for 2020 due to the COVID-19 situation. Yes, but again, how does all that pertain to a classic AT40 show not airing on said local station?

On AT40: The 80's 6/13/1987: The second verse and chorus of "Girls, Girls, Girls" by Motley Crue was omitted - original edit or Premiere edit?

So any airing of the show would be a Premiere edit, if shortened. 6/27 has that verse as well. It just so happened that it was originally edited in its debut week.

On AT40: The 80's 6/15/1985 (Airing on WVLI Kankakee, IL.): The third verse of "One Night in Bangkok" by Murray Head was omitted out mashing up part of the second singing and third singing of the chorus - Original or Premiere edit?
Also on AT40: The 80's 6/15/1985 the second verse and chorus of "If You Love Somebody and Set Them Free" by Sting was omitted - I think that's a Premiere edit, when I originally heard that AT40 episode on WLS 890 AM back in the 1985 time that Sting song was complete!

It's sucky when listening back to old shows and a song is played that I love but the second verse is cut out. But I actually think I found it more annoying when verses were looped a second time, which seemed to become more common in the last 3 or 4 years of AT40. It was even more frustrating when they'd loop verses of songs in the first hour, only to cut verses out of songs later on in the show. I get timing needed to be spot on, but surely they could have shifted a song from the first hour over into hour two without having to cut/add anything. :/
Anyone know why Brandy's Have You Ever was always edited the way it was? Or why Garbage's Stupid Girl always had verse 2 cut out during it's top 40 run?

It was also Premiere's doing; just checked my original copy.

Anyone know why Brandy's Have You Ever was always edited the way it was? Or why Garbage's Stupid Girl always had verse 2 cut out during it's top 40 run? I took a quick listen to the chart run of "Stupid Girl", which debuted on the 7/27/1996 CT40 show. It was actually played intact on the 8/3, 8/17*, 9/28* and 10/5 shows (* - guest-hosted by David Perry). I think some songs are much easier to edit, and it was an easy target, much like "Eyes Without A Face" was for Premiere in the 1984 shows. And for those of us that have the AT40 2.0 shows in our collection, we hear the opposite scenario - many of the second verses, etc. that were cut in prior eras, are repeated. There was one show where I think the second verse of Vonda Shepard's "Searchin' My Soul" was repeated TWICE. (Might have been an AT20 show.) Once Casey moved to AM/FM from Westwood One, the structure of the countdown changed some. Every hour began with #40, #30, #20, and #10. And the producers did whatever they could to keep each hour timed that way. On the original AT40 shows (save for the immediate few weeks after the 4-hour expansion in October 1978), there really wasn't that structure in terms of what number led off a subsequent hour. Many 4-hour shows led off with #31 or #29 in hour 2, or #11 or #9 to kick off hour 4. Many CT40 shows I've heard usually start hour 2 with #31. I'm not sure how else to explain it. Some songs are just easier targets for editing.

Some songs are just easier targets for editing. I thought it was Shadoe Stevens who in 1990 began the preceedure of repeating/looping a line or verse or chorus in selected songs on AT40. Among the first of these: "Jerk Out" by The Time (circa August 1990) and "Giving You The Benefit" by Pebbles (September 1990).

I might have mentioned this earlier in this thread, but I don't really feel like scanning through 61 pages, but on this week's 1983 "B" show, there was a very sloppy edit in "Never Gonna Let You Go" by Sergio Mendes. They mashed up the second and final chorus, neither of which were in the same key. Even to people unfamiliar with the song, it might have sounded weird.

I hate the editing in AT40, but I must give the audio engineers credit for cutting them pretty smoothly given the fact of the technology available at the time (razor blades and white tape anyone?)

I remember that edit too, which I also found in my original copy. Imagine what it would sound like if the second chorus was left, and goes straight to the ending - it would sound just as strange. This would be one of the more difficult songs to edit, unless the edit is made somewhere in the first chorus.
