Perhaps the way to "force" the issue without outright forcing the stations is to provide an additional show. Dust off the old AT20 Christmas special from the early '00s where Casey does the top 30 Christmas songs of all time. Those that wanted to can run that on Christmas weekend, and then run the full top 60 for New Year's.

Yeah, forced because you send out a 6 hour show. There are so many creative things they could do with a situation like this if radio wasn;t so cookie cutter now. Imagine if the show was run twice on the weekend like AT40 used to be. Stations could do part 1 for the first airing, and part 2 for the second. And issue a full 6 hour version of the show to run January 2 (since that will be the observed holiday). Thats just my opinion though.

I just got an email from Mix 106.5 in Cleveland, and they are doing what I am afraid many stations will be doing. They will not be airing Part 1 of the Year End show at all. They will be all Christmas on the 25th, and will then run Part 2 of the Year End show in the regular 7am-10am timeslot on New Years Day. Since I will be home and missing the New Years Day six hour marathon on WXXO/WOXX, I can only hope WKDD will be airing the whole show in some form.

I just got another email, this one from WKDD. They will not be running Casey or Rick Dees on Christmas Day. They will be running Rick Dees Top 100 from 4pm-Midnight on New Years Eve. However, they will NOT be running Casey's Year-End part one. They will air 30-1 on New Years Day from 9am-Noon...as well as re-air Rick's second half in its usual time from 8-Midnight. So....another station that will not be airing the first half of AT20's Year-End show (and what bugs me is last year they ran the Top 60 of 2004 in full on New Years Eve AND New Years Day, and now they are not doing it but still are with Dees....ugh) Big time bummer.

Another bummer about this is normally I would listen to Dees' Top 100 on New Years Eve, but I will not because even though his chart is usually totally different, often times (especially with Hot AC) number one is correct...and I refuse to even look at what people are speculating # 1 will be...let alone what it actually is....until I am told by Casey Kasem. Corny I know, but it's just something I do.

maybe the people who record the shows on this board should make a concerted effort to get together and trade copies of the missing shows during this time. It seems that may be the only way to get them all.

Believe it or not, i'm seeing if I can pull some strings to spend New Years Eve up here at college, for the sole purpose of being able to wake up New Years morning and hear the full Top 60!

I'll be the life of the party. It'll be 12:01am and i'll have to tell everyone "I have to get to bed now so I can get some sleep because I have to get up at 5:55am to listen to Casey Kasem's end of the year countdown show"
Thing is - my friends up here know me too well and wont be surprised at all. And I guess the fact that they don't think anything of it shows what friends they are. Haha.

well lets look at your choices after midnight:
ESPN-perhaps the football game will still be going on, if not, then they have their own New Years Eve show starting this year which will also be simulcast on ESPN2....good luck with that. I am sure all 6 people watching will like it. You know since it's all the same company, perhaps they could have Kix Brooks come in and hard sell he is the host of ACC from then on, maybe 2 of the 6 viewers will be able to listen to it.
Fox-Regis Philbin, he was ok last year on ABC, but I doubt he will matter much now so forget it.....once again Fox, good luck with that. Also Happy Early New Years to the 20 people watching.
Then there is ABC....Ryan Seacrest is there like a vulture waiting in the wings, but this will mark the long awaited return of Dick Clark! But after 12:01am, why does sticking around matter. May as well go to sleep, I can see Seacrest kind of taking the reigns after midnight and the music really gets going.

Good news from WKDD. They have decided to run the full Top 60, and it will run from 9am-3pm on New Years Day!

It wasn't easy listening to the first part of the AT20 2005 year end countdown. Many stations did not air AT20 on Christmas weekend.
I woke up Saturday morning at 5:30 a.m. expecting to hear AT20 on OZ FM. Instead, they aired the MuchMusicRadio countdown. AT40 that would normally air at 8:30 a.m. was prempted by Christmas music. Thus, with the exception of the MuchMusicRadio show, all other weekend countdown shows did not air on OZ FM that weekend.
I ended up listening to most of AT20 on WKEE on Saturday morning at 7. For Sunday, KBIG in Los Angeles did air AT20 on Christmas Day. Also KDMX aired AT20 on Christmas night, but one hour later than its normal start.
Hopefully, listening to top 30 of 2005 will be an easier task on New Years weekend.
