Most people might assume that the highest debut of the week might have the best chance of going to #1 The highest debut on the Hot 100 during the 1980s only went as far as #4, if I recall. That song in question was "Thriller" by Michael Jackson. But the second and third highest debuts in the Hot 100 during the 1980s (both involving Michael Jackson) did in fact go to #1.

BTW, "My Love" by Paul McCartney & Wings is at #40 on this week's AT40 - The 70's show (8/4/73). "My Love" spent 4 weeks at #1 and was on its way down the chart at #40. I wonder how many #1 songs spent their last week on AT40 at #40 Well, on the '80s show that was played that same weekend (8/6/1988), "Foolish Beat" by Debbie Gibson was at #40 on its final week on AT40. You call yourself "80sAT40Fan" & you didn't even mention this? Tsk tsk tsk!

How did I miss a #40 on its way down the chart on the 70s show and not the 80s show?! What's amazing about both charts... both "My Love" and "Foolish Beat" dropped from #31 to #40 in their last week on AT40... fifteen years apart. What are the odds of that happening? I'll go to the corner of my room now and listen to Debbie Gibson's "Out Of The Blue" CD 500 times in a row now as punishment...
