Oh, there's 1986's #10 "Baby Love" by Regina, which sounds like Madonna to me, Her writing and producing partner was Stephen Bray, who also worked with Madonna... ISTR Casey telling the story. dL

The first few times that I heard "Rhythm Of The Night" by DeBarge, I thought it was Gloria Estefan.

This one I never realized until I heard the latter song today:
Ray Parker, Jr./Raydio, "A Woman Needs Love" > New Edition, "Mr. Telephone Man"
Also:
America, "Daisy Jane" > Janet Jackson, "Let's Wait Awhile"

Much like the Janet/America pair mentioned above, the verse melodies of these two are almost identical: "Diamonds and Rust"--Joan Baez; "Foolish Games"--Jewel.

This one I never realized until I heard the latter song today: Ray Parker, Jr./Raydio, "A Woman Needs Love" > New Edition, "Mr. Telephone Man" I became aware of this similarity recently as well, after I learned that Ray Parker was actually the writer of the New Edition song.

"Hold You Down" by Jennifer Lopez with Fat Joe from 2005 sounds like the 1987 song "As We Lay" by Shirley Murdoch.
"I'm Gonna Be Alright" by Jennifer Lopez from 2002, and "I Got 5 On It" by Luniz from 1997 sounds a lot like the 1987 song "Why You Treat Me So Bad" by Club Nouveau.

Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians and almost anything by Sheryl Crow kind of reminds me of Rickie Lee Jones because of their voices.

Ace of Base, "Don't Turn Around" > Lady Gaga, "Alejandro" Madonna, "Express Yourself" > Lady Gaga, "Born This Way"
And OldSchool's mention of Rickie Lee Jones reminded me that Lady Gaga's "You And I" kind of reminds me of "Chuck E.'s in Love".

Rocky Burnett's 'Tired Of Towing The Line' sounds exactly like Shakin' Stevens. (Listen to Shaky's 'You Drive Me Crazy'.)

When Expose hit in 1993 after a change in the lineup and music style, the biggest hit they had, "Never Get Over You Getting Over Me" always sounded to me like Wilson Phillips.

To me, the instrumental opening of Kool and the Gang's "Cherish" sounds just like the instrumental opening of James Ingram's "I Don't Have the Heart."
