Chris Isaak's 1991 hit "Wicked Game" sounds like something Roy Orbison might've recorded.

Did someone already post this? Gerry Rafferty purposely sounding like Bob Dylan on the chorus of "Stuck In The Middle With You" (by Steeler's Wheel) which seems like it was reincarnated, production / instruments at least with Sheryl Crow's "All I Wanna Do Is Have Some Fun."

I always thought "Livin It Up" by Bell and James (one of the songs from the 3/17/79 show played by Premiere this week) sounded like a Kool and the Gang song. That was further underscored when I found that one of the members of Kool and the Gang was Robert "Kool" Bell, leading me to believe that he was part of Bell and James or was related to the Bell.

I think "Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress)" by the Hollies sounds like Creedence Clearwater Revival, "Signs" by the Five Man Electrical Band sounds like Alice Cooper, and "Ain't No Woman (Like the One I've Got)" by the Four Tops sounds like Tom Jones.

It's not a Top 40 hit, but Treat Her Gently off Venus And Mars sounds more like a Billy Joel song than a Billy Joel song.
Usually it's more Billy sounding like Paul. Not to be confused with Billy Paul, who sounds like neither.

"Hey There Lonely Girl" by Eddie Holman (1970) sounds a tad like Michael Jackson.

I always thought "It Ain't Over Till Its Over" was done Smokey Robinson. It wasn't till a co-worker of mine told me it was Lenny Kravitz.

In the mid eighties, the British trio "The Police" broke up and were seemingly replaced by another British trio, "The Outfield"who had exactly the same sound and lead vocals. "Your Love" and "All The Love"were very good "Police" sounding singles.

I thought at the time Motortown by Kane Gang was the new one Barry Manilow! It does sound just like something from Barry's Pretzel Logic or Katy Lied albums. Or maybe from Manilow Live.

I think "Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress)" by the Hollies sounds like Creedence Clearwater Revival. It also has elements of "Bang a Gong"; I often refer to LCW as "Long Cool Creedence in a T-Tex". I've always thought that Phil Seymour's "Precious To Me" sounds like it would've fit right in on Frampton Comes Alive.

"On The Dark Side" by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band sounds like Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Agree with that totally. For the first couple of weeks after the single was released back in '84, I did indeed think that it was the Boss.
