It just missed hitting the Top 40 by peaking at #43 on the Hot 100; this week in 1987, Paul Lekakis was down to #53 with "Boom Boom (Let's Go Back to My Room)".

I remember this making the top 10 in Chicago on WYTZ Z-95's Street Sheet survey. Too bad it could have even made the R&R CHR Top 40 or even the Cash Box Pop Top 40 for a week or two.

I remember many years ago a friend of mine was talking about this song and trying to remember who sang it. I knew the answer, but didn't say anything because, honestly, who's going to recognize the name Paul Lekakis?

Spending its third week at its peak position of #94 this week in 1989 was the first Hot 100 hit for Melissa Etheridge - "Similar Features".

Down to #68 on the Hot 100 this week in 1981, "Limelight" by Rush previously peaked at #55.

Scoring a bigger hit on the Hot 100 than "The Breaks (Part 1)" (which reached #87 in 1980), Kurtis Blow took "Basketball" to #71 this week in 1985. Also posting the longer album version with its mention of a young Michael Jordan.

As Dr. Dre and DJ Yella were getting ready to find fame as members of N.W.A, they were already on the Hot 100 with their previous outfit, The World Class Wreckin' Cru. Also featuring future Top 40 artist Michel'le, their lone Hot 100 hit "Turn Off the Lights" was at #87 this week in 1988 and about to peak at #84.

Last year during my MTV tribute, I posted "Little Suzi's on the Up" by Ph.D. Today I'm posting the cover version that actually hit the Hot 100. Debuting at #95 this week in 1987, "Little Suzi" by Tesla would only reach #91 the following week.

Originally from the 1975 album Forever, Michael, Michael Jackson's "One Day in Your Life" was released as a single by Motown to cash in on the popularity of his Epic Records album Off the Wall (similar to Motown releasing "Farewell My Summer Love" due to the success of Thriller). It was at its peak position of #55 on the Hot 100 this week in 1981.

It's too bad in 1987 Motown Records never released as a single "Twenty-Five Miles" from "The Original Soul of Michael Jackson" album at the time MJ's "Bad" album was released.

It was this band's only Hot 100 hit; at #55 on the chart this week in 1989, after having peaked at #51, are The Replacements with "I'll Be You".
