This song might be appropriate for Thanksgiving dinner with family if it was called "Don't SIT So Close to Me". Anyway, this would be the last studio recording made by The Police and it was just a remake of their #10 hit from 1981. Peaking at #46 on the Hot 100 this week in 1986, here's "Don't Stand So Close to Me '86".

At its peak position of #65 on the Hot 100 this week in 1982 is a song that may not be much of a "lost" classic, though it may not be as well known as the band's Top 10 hit "The Warrior". Here's Scandal with "Goodbye to You".

Peaking at #51 on the Hot 100 the previous week, Kiss were at #56 this week in 1985 with "Tears Are Falling". This is from the time Kiss was in the "no makeup" era.

This is from the time Kiss was in the "no makeup" era. Have to ask... was it the lack of make-up that resulted in this song only getting to #56... or their clothes? Good Lord! If Billy Squier got cr@p for dressing as he did in "Rock Me Tonite", how did they guys not get booted off MTV for their look? I forgot how much neon clothing was "in" in 1985...

If Billy Squier got cr@p for dressing as he did in "Rock Me Tonite", how did they guys not get booted off MTV for their look? I forgot how much neon clothing was "in" in 1985... When I posted the video, I had to check and see if it was directed by the same guy who did "Rock Me Tonite" (it wasn't). And yes, they dropped the makeup and outfits and thought a hot pink coat and fluorescent green gloves were an improvement. Then again, the Village People thought the same way.

Debuting on the Hot 100 at #87 this week in 1980 is a song David Bowie would take to #70 in early 1981 - "Fashion". Look for cameos in the video from guitarist G.E. Smith, actress Khandi Alexander, and original MTV VJ Alan Hunter, among others.

The studio version of Rush's "Closer to the Heart" reached #76 on the Hot 100 in 1977. The live version from the album "Exit... Stage Left" debuted on the chart this week in 1981 at #90 and would peak higher than the original did, at #69.

Eddy Grant's follow-up to "Electric Avenue", titled "I Don't Wanna Dance". The song is great, but I hated (and still do hate) the music video, which is why I am only posting the link to the audio version. The song peaked at #53 on the Billboard Hot 100 in late 1983.

Back when she was a "nobody", Madonna had a big hit on the Billboard Dance Club Chart in the spring of 1983, when this song peaked at #3. This is one of my most favorite of Madonna's songs, and I personally think it should have been released as a commercial single and should have made at least the top 40.
Here is some early Madonna for you. It's "Burning Up", and it's too bad it never burned up to the Hot 100.

For Christmas this week, I'll be featuring songs from the 1987 album "A Very Special Christmas". Today's pick was originally sung by Darlene Love for the 1963 album "A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector". This version was covered by U2 and is arguably more well-known than the original. Here's "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)".

^ Great pick, jlthorpe! I have that CD; probably my favorite of the AVSC set (I own the first 3). I also noticed more songs from that first volume are played more often than any other. It was one of a kind back then. While the subsequent releases have been good, I feel they haven't quite matched the first release back in 1987.
