At #59 on this week's Hot 100 in 1987 is the British band Curiosity Killed the Cat with their only American hit "Misfit", which would come close to hitting the Top 40 but only peaked at #42. In my review of CKC's debut album, Keep Your Distance [ ], for my college newspaper, regrettably, I made no mention of the similarities in sound between them and the likes of Sade, Simply Red, and Swing Out Sister. I did, of course, point out that "Misfit" was #59 on the Hot 100 the week that the review was published. Thanks for the memory! Did you go on to a career in journalism? If so, did you continue to write about music? I started as a journalism major at University of Florida. I wrote sports articles for out college newspaper for a while, but eventually went into telecommunications production.

Actually, there is another song of theirs that I'm familiar with from that same album, one that I like waaaaaay more than "Misfit". I don't want to reveal it just yet, but maybe I'll post it around the time the album peaked in Billboard that year.

I work in transportation and logistics these days, and most of my music writing is here on the forum.

Spending its last week on the Hot 100 at position #100 this week in 1985 was a former #67 hit for British singer and musician Belouis Some - "Some People".

Like the Belouis Some song I posted on Wednesday, today's pick from 1981 was also spending its last week on the Hot 100 this week that year at #100. However, this song only peaked at #79 - "A Woman in Love (It's Not Me)" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

I posted recently that there was a Curiosity Killed the Cat song that I preferred to their only Hot 100 hit "Misfit". I first heard this song in the movie "American Psycho", and it came from the same album as "Misfit" - "Keep Your Distance" - which peaked at #55 on the Billboard album chart this week in 1987. Here's Curiosity Killed the Cat with "Red Lights".

I posted recently that there was a Curiosity Killed the Cat song that I preferred to their only Hot 100 hit "Misfit"...Here's Curiosity Killed the Cat with "Red Lights". I figured it was side two, track one, "Ordinary Day." I liked that one almost as much as "Misfit."

Sorry, not familiar with that one. "Misfit" and "Red Lights" are the only two songs I know by them.
