For the lost 80s classic from November 22, 1980, we'll go with one that still gets spins semi-regularly on classic rock stations. As a single it barely dented the Hot 100, spending half of its 4 weeks at the #89 peak position. It was the lead off track from this wind milling guitarist's third solo release "Empty Glass". Rough Boys - Pete Townsend

From November 21, 1987, this lost 80s classic would be the only Hot 100 solo single for the Motels lead singer. She would peak at #80 and chart for 8 weeks with this Byrds/Petty-sounding single. Guitar work is courtesy of Charlie (Beat's So Lonely) Sexton. Don't Tell Me The Time - Martha Davis

Of the first 10 singles this duo charted on the Hot 100, the lost 80s classic from December 1, 1984 was the only one not to reach the Top 40. In its second week on the Hot 100, the song was at its #81 peak position, and would chart another 2 weeks before exiting. Sexcrime - Eurythmics

The lost 80s classic from December 10, 1983 was a Van Morrison cover sung live in the late 1960s. Although the lead singer passed away in 1971, continued interest resulted in the release of "Alive, She Cried" a compilation taken from live concerts. Moving from 86 to 80 in its second week, the single release would chart for 7 weeks and peak at #71. Gloria - Doors

Gloria - DoorsWhile not as explicit as the alleged onstage antics that got Jim Morrison arrested in Miami ("...wanna see my ----?"), this version of "Gloria" is certainly WAY more suggestive than either Them (Van Morrison's band) or The Shadows of Knight!

To honor his recent passing, we feature the departed Greg Lake on this week's lost 80s classic from December 19, 1981. He was one week away from reaching his #48 peak with his highest charting single. It would remain at there for 3 weeks before dropping out after 10 weeks. Let Me Love You Once - Greg Lake

It was already a Top 10 hit for the Temptations and Rare Earth, and a Top 40 hit for Rod Stewart and Faces. Why not try to update a classic? Unfortunately this synth-driven version became a lost 80s classic. Debuting at #92 on the December 27, 1986 charts, it would roam the lower netherlands and peak at #80 during its 11 week appearance. (I Know) I'm Losing You - Uptown

Oh the controversy! This week's lost 80s classic from January 14, 1984 was one week away from completing its 12 week Hot 100 chart run. The title track to their latest release, the single peaked at #66. The video was introduced by the band on MTV, and was their first public appearance by the band without their trademark make-up! Lick It Up - Kiss

As Olivia Newton-John was physically keeping Foreigner waiting...and waiting...and waiting for a chance to top the Hot 100 that never came, a second single from Bob Seger's live "Nine Tonight" double-album was released. The studio version was the flip side of "Still The Same". The live version is this week's lost 80s classic from January 23, 1982. Feel Like A Number - Bob SegerNote: Couldn't locate the "Nine Tonight" version. Attached is a live performance from 2011.
The lead singer from Ambrosia debuted in the Hot 100 with his only solo entry on January 25, 1986. Included on the soundtrack to "White Nights", it quickly faded to black as a single. The lost 80s classic charted 3 weeks and peaked at #95. Prove Me Wrong - David Pack

Hard to believe he's a one-hit wonder as a solo act, since he had 13 Top 10 hits on the R&B charts. Also hard to believe that it's been 7 years since his passing. The lost 80s classic from January 24, 1981 is one of 5 singles to peak in the 40s on the Hot 100 for this soul balladeer. It was at its #44 peak during the song's ninth of 13 weeks on the chart. It also came up short on the R&B charts as well. This knockout ballad just missed the top, peaking at #2. Love TKO - Teddy Pendergrass
From January 31, 1987 this lost 80s classic was off to a promising start, moving 92-74 in its second week in the Hot 100. Unfortunately the third Hot 100 single from his "Three Hearts In The Happy Ending Machine" album could only muster a #57 peak during an 8 week chart run. Someone Like You - Daryl Hall

The 30th anniversary of this USA For Africa charity event will be May 25. Millions of people paid $10 for the honor to participate in 1985, and the event raised approximately $34 million for local charities. A single to commemorate the event was released sung by session singers Joe Cerisano and Sandy Farina. The backing band were the members of Toto. The lost 80s classic from April 19, 1986 was in its second of eight weeks on the chart and would peak at #65. The "B" side of the single was "We Are The World" by USA For Africa. The single was played simultaneously on hundreds of radio stations at 3PM Eastern time on May 25, 1986. Although it was the follow up to this band's only Top 40 US hit, this lost 80s classic from February 4, 1984 was actually their first UK single. It had peaked at #10 in the spring of 1983. It made a solid #78 Hot 100 debut during this week, but its stay was brief. After 6 weeks it exited, having peaked at #52. Fields Of Fire - Big Country
What do U2, Great White, Giorgio, Kiss, Bananarama, and Deja have in common? They were all candidates for this week's lost 80s classic from February 6, 1988. Each one spent at least 12 weeks in the Hot 100 without ever reaching #40. By the way The Cure's, "Just Like Heaven" had a 19 week chart run and peaked in the leadoff position. But there's one more. This particular song charted 20 weeks in the Hot 100, but only peaked at #43. It was this artist's sixth and final Hot 100 single. He had reached the Top 40 twice, one solo and one in a duet. Both songs went Top 10. Never Thought (That I Could Love) - Dan Hill

From May 8, 1982, the lost 80s classic marked the return to the Hot 100 from a 70s powerhouse after a 4 year absence. It was spending the last of 6 weeks in the Hot 100, having peaked at #66. What were they good for? A career that will hopefully end in a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction...soon! You Got The Power - War
This week's lost 80s classic from May 10, 1986 was featured in the movie "Down And Out In Beverly Hills". The song was in its final week of a 10 weeks ride that just stopped short of the Top 40, peaking at #42. Marked the final Hot 100 appearance (to date) of one of the pioneers of rock and roll. Great Gosh A' Mighty - Little Richard
