"I am a lineman for the county." Do any counties still have telephone linemen? And with cell phones, land line phone service is slowly going away. Something that bugs me about Wichita Lineman is "I know I need a small vacation". Who takes a small vacation? A short vacation, yes, but small? After all, who calls a long vacation a large vacation? I doubt that Connie Francis or the Go-Gos took small or large vacations. Maybe Glen (Jimmy) was so overworked he couldn't remember correct adjectives.

Remember, Jimmy Webb is the guy who wrote "MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark / All the sweet green icing flowing down / Someone left the cake out in the rain / I don't think that I can take it / 'Cuz it took so long to bake it / And I'll never have that recipe again / Oh no!!!" Even he admitted that he was "on something" at the time.

In Billy Joel's "Piano Man" and "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant," he uses the word "bread" as slang for money. Does anybody say that anymore?

Would anybody recognize the TV detectives name-checked in Tavares' "Whodunnit" -- Ellery Queen, McCloud, Baretta, Kojak?

Would anybody recognize the TV detectives name-checked in Tavares' "Whodunnit" -- Ellery Queen, McCloud, Baretta, Kojak? "Kojak" and "McCloud" are on the 'retro' TV networks (Me, Antenna, Cozi, etc.). "Ellery Queen" was only on for one season and is rarely seen. Has name recognition from the books, though. "Baretta" is now rarely seen, probably due to star Robert Blake being charged with, but acquitted of, his wife's murder.

From "Some Guys Have All The Luck"
"I called you collect. You didn't accept. You had nothing to say."
What would the lyrics be today? "I texted you. You ghosted me."
(Further supporting my post is the fact that grammar check does not recognize "I called you collect" as proper grammar.)

This one is from this week's 1971 show: Today's unfortunate kids would have no idea why Bobby Russell's kids were painfully interrupting his hangover-ridden sleep early on a Saturday morning. No such thing as Saturday morning cartoons on network television anymore. Today's youth will never know the joy of getting out of bed at 0600hrs on that glorious weekend morning, with parents still soundly sleeping, pouring themselves a heaping bowl or three of 'Cap'n Crunch' or 'Quisp' or 'Quake', and parking their butts in front of the TV for the next four hours!
