Since "Ted" opened up a couple of weeks ago at number one at the box office, it made me think that Mark Wahlberg had to pull off a pretty rare feat: having a number one song and movie. Then I thought he probably pulled it off like 12 years ago with "Perfect Storm" and I'm just catching up. Anyway: Who else has had a number one movie and song (I would say lead in a movie)? I don't know movie charts well enough to know what movies have opened up at number 1. Did "Grease" open at #1? "Purple Rain"? I'm sure Jennifer Lopez has done it. People like Streisand. Any to add?

Whitney Houston with "Waiting To Exhale" and of course pick any of her number 1 songs--and also speaking of #1's, her second album debuted at #1, becoming the first female (and don't know if that feat was ever achieved by any other female artist) to have that accomplishment.

Madonna, possibly?

I was thinking that...if "Evita" went to one. I guess "A League Of Our Own" would count. Kinda.... Of course Huey Lewis and Dan Aykroyd did it by the least conservative parameters. Huey with three number ones and about 20 seconds in "Back To The Future". Dan Aykroyd did it with "Ghostbusters" and...well...his "part" in "We Are The World". I've never figured out what his part was in the song

John Travolta and Olivia Newton John. Even though John Travolta only number one came from Grease.

I wonder if Aerosmith's "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" counts? I am pretty sure "Armageddon" was a box office smash in 1998 (I bet it was a #1 movie). Aerosmith's song was their only #1 hit, if I recall.

I would think Diana Ross accomplished this with Lady Sings the Blues and any of her #1s such as Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Touch Me In the Morning, Theme From Mahagony (don't know if that was #1??), Love Hangover, Upside Down.

They were in Wayne's World 2, which was #1 at the box office for a weekend in December 1993 (thanks for the Box Office Mojo link).

I'd rate Aerosmith's appearance as more of a cameo than a lead or supporting role, according to the original post.

In 2005, Casey had a spotlight on AT10 that was similar. The only artists I remember offhand were Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler and Cher.
Other possibilities:
Dolly Parton Tina Turner (from Mad Max) Irene Cara Debbie Reynolds

How about the Spice Girls? "Wannabe" was a #1 song and I think "Spice World" was a #1 movie as well.
