^Which was good, because I thought the EP version was worlds better. With the single version, they just basically farted around with the original, totally taking away from its good quality.
By the way, cdman71031 mentioned the Eric Clapton double sided song and said that Casey never mentioned the B-side. (for the record, it's "Cocaine"). I heard somewhere that Casey alternated the two songs. I guess not.

Regarding Eric Clapton's double-sided Tulsa Time/Cocaine, for its initial five weeks in the Top 40 in 1980, Casey only played Tulsa Time.
However, he mentioned the flip side during the record's introduction when it debuted on 7-26-80. And somewhat unusual, the cue sheets that accompanied the program LPs for all five weeks it was in the Top 40 listed both song titles even though only one was played.

Regarding; "Tainted Love"--Yes later promo copies were the "Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go" version, this was later issued on an oldies issue 45. Though it never appeared on the HOT 100 as "Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go", strangely it was listed that way on Billboard's Top 100 of the year list.
Regarding Thomas Dolby---The promo single is the version AT 40 played and was featured in the video. Another similar case is Murray Head's "One Night In Bangkok" the version AT 40 played and was most common was on the promo 45. The commercial 45 was a lot different.

Which reminds me of "She Blinded Me With Science" by Thomas Dolby. The commercial single version was the remix (with an extended intro and a long drum solo at the end), but all I ever heard played on AT40 was the shorter EP version. I thought the remix wasn't made until the early '90s. I never, ever heard the remix until maybe 1994 or so.

I seem to remember AT40 playing the version that had a lengthy symphonic intro. But outside of AT40, radio stations generally played the more "conventional" version of the song.

That's my recollection as well. The symphonic intro was on the video, and is on some (but not all) AT40s. But I never heard it on the radio in any market. The 45, which I bought in May 1985 and still have, has the non-symphonic version.

Another song would be "Clones (We're All)" by Alice Cooper which hit #40 during the week that they played the AT40 Book of Records show(July 5, 1980).

Hmmm, would be a great idea for a special countdown... Interesting idea.........perhaps it would make for a great theme for an AT10 show, "The Top 40 Songs Casey Never Played!"

The only edited Robert Wright promo styled remixes of Hall & Oates that was play on AT40 was "Your Imagination" and "One On One" but never "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" Casey always played 3:39 edited version and sometimes 5:07 album version, but never the 3:50 promo version. I guess 21 Century didn't have that version for AT40. Sometimes you never know.
