OK, time to get the creative juices flowing...call it "AT10: The Fantasy Editions."
What theme(s) would you have liked to see them do on AT10 (that was not done) and what songs would you include as part of it?

I always wished they would do the Top 10 of each year in the past. Not in order or anything but sporadically.
I don't know if they did this or not but "songs that peaked at #2" would have been good too.

Ok, I have one. Songs that had the word "Moon" in the title.

Perhaps as a Valentine's Day weekend special, this may work... A Top 10 listing of the sexiest songs of all time. (OK, if you insist, we'll call it the "most romantic" songs) Of course if you're talking AT10, the "all time" part would primarily include music from the 1990s and 2000s. And the songs? I'll let someone else have some fun with that. Taking MEF's suggestion one step further, bring on the honeymoon.

Pete, on a generic basis, I never understood why they didn't do countdowns as part of the themes. I guess they figured people would confuse it with the regular AC songs countdown.

Scott, the first thought that comes to mind is the amount of time and effort it takes to coordinate such a project. If it's going to be done, it has to be done the right way. And it's possible that the commitment wasn't there. There may have also been some doubt as to whether countdown theme programs had any short term and/or long term value to listeners and, maybe more importantly, to advertisers. Just a thought.

I would think it was time and staff constraints. I can't imagine advertisers would have screamed over a spotlight countdowns.

I don't know if they did this or not but "songs that peaked at #2" would have been good too. I'm pretty sure they did that one at least twice.

How about top country crossover hits of all time, from the 1960s onward. These would be songs that reached the top of the charts on both the country and pop charts (comparably speaking, Billboard Hot Country Singles/Singles & Tracks/Songs, and Billboard Hot 100).
And then, after you run out of No. 1s, then go to No 2s and so forth until you fill the list.
This idea comes after it was made clear that reruns of classic "American Country Countdown" programs probably won't be played in the near future, meaning no "Top 50 Country Hits of the 1970s" (of which all but a handful of songs were hits on both the country and pop charts). Do it this way, you get the same list and it's presented as AT10.
Brian
P.S. – Any guesses as to whether Taylor Swift's new song, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" (which seems to be the hottest song on radio, just three days after its release) will join the elite club?

I apologize if AT10 featured this Spotlight, but I can't remember hearing it:
Songs from the 1980's that were Re-Released:
Prince, 1999 Sheriff, When I'm With You Pointer Sisters, I'm So Excited UB40, Red Red Wine Bee Gees, You Win Again Benny Mardones, Into the Night
To me, this was when Casey was at his best. Telling stories of an original chart run, how the song was re-discovered, and then how it performed on it's second chart run.

I thought of another, songs that dropped like a rock from #1. Meaning songs that fell far the week it fell it out of the top spot.

Pete, on a generic basis, I never understood why they didn't do countdowns as part of the themes. I guess they figured people would confuse it with the regular AC songs countdown. They did it at least once with the top soundtracks of all time. I can see where that would be a problem if some of the songs on the list weren't playable on AC radio, or if the #1 artist in that special countdown happened to be the #1 artist in the current countdown.

How about top country crossover hits of all time, from the 1960s onward. In 2004, they did "#1 country songs" (on the R&R chart). Some of them I remember were: I'm Already There I Hope You Dance 9 to 5 We've Got Tonite

Time to bring this old thread up again.....
I wished they did a theme with the day of the week in the title, since it asked as a question in this weeks AT40 1980 show.

Could have closed it out with Jade's "Every Day of the Week"
