I remember a radio show devoted to contemporary hits that aired on AM Radio during the mid-80s until around sometime in 1988 called The National Music Survey. I remember it was called The Dick Clark National Music Survey in 1984, then became simply "The National Music Survey" when Dick Clark left the helm and Charlie Tuna took over (Charlie Tuna was also announcing on the NBC game show Scrabble at that time).
But a male and female duo took over Charlie Tuna's hosting duties sometime in 1988. What were their names?
And when did Dick Clark leave the show?
Also, when was the show cancelled?
Is there any way someone could send me a full broadcast of a Charlie Tuna-hosted episode from the spring or early summer of 1988?

It was called The Dick Clark National Music Survey at least as far back as summer 1981, when I first heard it. The #1 song that week was "Elvira" by the Oak Ridge Boys (according to Cash Box, whose chart the show followed).

Here is what i know: the first show was i believe memorial day weekend of 1981-i have the disc i will try to remember to check on the exact date maybe may 28th? anyway the show used cashbox like doomsday said. sometime (not sure when) they started using radio and records chart. around 1985? dick clark started hosting countdown america so the national music survey morphed into a top 25 ac countdown. i was at a station that ran this version in 1986. i think it was maybe around the fall (thanksgiving?) that charlie tuna started hosting. the station i was at switched from a/c to country in feb of 1987 so i dont know when charlie tuna stopped doing the countdown. i also don't have any of these discs just ones from 1981 (the station i was at changed to country in sept 81) also i have seen disc for sale on e-bay with the man/woman version of the show from late 88 early 89 but don't know when the show stopped airing. i do remember running a dick clark countdown america a/c version at a station i was working at in fall of 1993-spring or summer 1994(the station was sold and new owners changed from a/c to gospel. i hope this helped! if i see any charlie tuna hosted nms on e-bay i will let you know...

^ Memorial Day 1981 fell on 5/25, so the show's premiere date would've been the weekend of May 23-24. They switched from Cashbox to R&R sometime in late 1982 or early 1983, don't know the exact date though.

The show began as a product of the Mutual Broadcasting System and MBS affiliates got first crack at it. Since Dick Clark once guest-hosted AT40 I often wondered why it took so long for him to get his own countdown show.
My favorite story from the show; Dick told how the Commodores got their name by making a blind pick from a dictionary. He concludes by wondering how close they came to calling themselves "The Commodes".

There is just over 24 hours remaining as of this post if you want to bid on that broadcast.

I noticed that, now that the bidding has ended, there was only one bid for that broadcast, and I wonder if it's by anybody on these boards?
If it was anybody on these forums, could that person please send me a PM?

Let me see if I understand what you're after. This item sold for $1.99 and you apparently were not the sole bidder. How low would the price have been before you would've paid for it? $1.50? 99 cents? A quarter? How low would you go? And is there any reason why you'd expect someone else to make the purchase (and pay for postage too), then take the time to digitally record it from the LPs, then clean up the audio, and then give it to you for nothing? Indeed, how low would you go?

^ Well, people do it all the time. They do it as a favor.
And besides, if I paid for an MP3 copy, the person who was selling the MP3 copy would be doing something illegal. It's better to get a digital copy for free instead of buying it from someone, putting the person at risk of legal trouble. And besides, downloading is legal in Canada, at least for now.
I could say the same thing about someone providing AT40 broadcasts on a file sharing site, but that's another story.
Maybe I should consider getting myself a copy of such broadcast on eBay someday, but the issue is my roommate seems to be very leery about buying something on eBay. Don't know why.

Wow...that means you will never buy from Pete and others that sell on Ebay. In 13 years, I have never run into any problems with Ebay. Of course, look at the feedback before placing a bid. Plus, buying on Ebay opens up doors to other collectors that you normally don't have access to without placing a bid.
