Darn. Another year 4/25/81 won't be played.... When was 4/25/1981 last played? It could still have a chance next month in late April 2023!

Two things:
(1) Can't completely rule out 4/25/1981. While it'd be more unlikely than likely, can't say for sure. If another April 1981 show was picked, then I'd say it's likely a no-go.
(2) 4/25/1981 is a show that's in rotation on the classic AT40 iHeart channel, so you may have to wait several days for it, depending on where they're at in the lineup. But you can hear these shows at any time.
It was last played by Premiere in 2017 as a "B", and in 2014.

I just heard 3-12-88 on my go to station B97. Casey mentioned the "endangered species" of vocal groups hitting #1. Slowly but surely that would change in the next 10 years starting with New Kids On The Block the following year in 1989. 1990 was the year of Wilson Phillips. Boyz II Men was probably the most successful vocal group in the 90's. There some others to name a few such as TLC, All 4 One. Color Me Badd, and of course the "Boy Band Explosion " in the later 90's. How much better the 90s would be depends on your metric, and to an extent how broadly you define "vocal group". Go with the Hot 100, and it bounces right back to the 50s/60s/70s, with 16 or 17 vocal groups, and two others that are likely just past the borderline. In order: Wilson Phillips, New Kids on the Block, Sweet Sensation, Hi-Five, Color Me Badd, Boyz II Men, Silk, SWV, Ace of Base, All-4-One, TLC, Blackstreet, Spice Girls, Next, Divine, and Destiny's Child. I also count rap group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, who still satisfy the most basic criteria (no instruments). The two just past the borderline are Londonbeat (who apparently had a single multi-instrumentalist) and Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch (what would really be the nature of that act?). Go with the Pop countdowns...and while we still finish better than the 80s, it drops back down quite a bit. We lose Silk, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Blackstreet, Spice Girls, Next, Divine, and Destiny's Child either way (DC don't top the Pop countdowns until 2000; "Bills, Bills, Bills" topped the Hot 100 in 1999), plus we lose SWV using Shadoe's AT40 or TLC using CT40. We would only gain En Vogue, The Fugees, Backstreet Boys, using CT40 also Boy Krazy...and maybe Real McCoy (being a dance production-assembled act, I'm not sure about this one; I didn't count C&C Music Factory for the Hot 100 list for this same reason - in a similar vein, Casey also didn't count Lipps, Inc. for the 80s). In any case, the number drops back closer to around 10.

1988 is admittedly after my time, but there were many “No, just no” songs for me. Between “ Push It,” “ Rocket to You,” “ Need You Tonight,” “ Prove Your Love,” “ Get Out of My Dreams,” and more, they were too sexually aggressive for me. And sincere yet upbeat songs such as Dave Mason & Phoebe Snow’s “ Dreams I Dream” couldn’t even crack the Hot 100, let alone the top 40. In 1988 I began to watch VH1 and listen to Dick Clark’s adult contemporary show “ Countdown America.”
There were a few songs I liked, notably the ones by Michael Jackson, Rick Astley, and Debbie Gibson. It figures that “ Twilight World” had fallen out of the top 40 after just three weeks. But that sly INXS number was still hanging on for its 17th week. I forgot to mention Tiffany’s awful remake of the Beatles classic-/ and her maudlin ballad. I turned the radio off for both. I missed a whole bunch of songs toward the middle, including the first of many formulaic Aerosmith power ballads, a formula they would milk until 1998.

Ugh.. We all are entitled to our opinions but except for a few early 1980 shows, the playlist for March 1982 is one of my least favorites of the whole decade. Many songs on there did not carry over their popularity very well. I was only 5 years old then, which probably is the reason I don’t care for the chart, but I’m only familiar with maybe half the songs. At least in most of 1980 and 1981, the songs were played on the radio more as the decade went on. Wow--have to grant mjl677 one thing: The first quarter of this show (40-31) is certainly a treasure trove of 'lost 45s'. Which to me is a plus. #s 40 and 39 I do not recall at all, and of the others only "'65 Love Affair" and "867-5309/Jenny" were what could be called big pop hits, with "Jukebox Hero" joining them due to its status as a Classic Rock staple even though it petered out at #26 on the Hot 100. Of the two I did not recall at all, the Prism song sounds like about a half-dozen other similar songs, and all through "Just Can't Win 'em All" I was singing "Ride Like the Wind". I'm sure Mr. Yacht Rock himself noticed the similarity.
