So it almost has to be 1987 for the year-end show. 1980 should be out since they wouldn't likely play 12/20/80 the week before the 1980 Top 100. Chances of 1981 would figure to be thin. One year I wouldn't totally count out is 1986 -- last played in 2018, which makes it repeatable even though it's one of the more recent year-enders that has been aired. They haven't played an '86 show since the first week of October, which is curiously long. But yeah, 1987 should be the most likely. It's possible that we could see two year-end shows with one being the A show and one being the B show - the last time that happened was in 2016 into 2017, so it might be possible again this year as well. Or another case scenario is that because Christmas falls on a Saturday this year and that because many stations will play Christmas music with the exception of Sunday stations (unless if some do extend playing Christmas music beyond Christmas Day), Premiere could push the year-end show/shows back a week to allow all stations to play the year-end shows, and most of early January had guest-hosted shows.

^ That would certainly make more sense. I've been all for that since I've been here. Unlike the first half of January, there's no shortage of late December regular shows that can be slotted that Christmas weekend. (There are three shows whose dates are after Christmas; 1985, 1986, and 1987...because Billboard's frozen week didn't occur until the first Saturday of the following year.)

For those that listen to KZOY on Winamp or other music players through this link, it has been down for the last couple of days so it might not be available this weekend. However, this link from Online Radio Box can be used as an alternate. (WWIS uses the same Secure Net Systems link* and theirs is working just fine.) *Not quite the same; WWIS's starts with "ice5" and KZOY's starts with "ice3". UPDATE: It still doesn't work, so the Online Radio Box link is the only option to use for today (their TuneIn player also isn't working). Someone has posted the following stream link for KZOY, but then I couldn't find it again so I'm reposting it here: gemini.shoutca.st:8047/stream

I see this as a more likely scenario for next year, when Christmas Eve + Christmas Day will comprise the entire weekend. The last time that was so, in 2016, we got 12/27/86, which has Christmas extras and LDDs and had Casey in a holiday mood. ...and now that I think about it, could 12/27 be in store after 1980? (Which, yes, would result in pushing year-end shows to start after Christmas...) It would account for there having been no 1986 all this time - heck, when it was run in 2016, it followed an even longer "A" show drought for '86 - only 10/11 as a "B" was done between 12/27 and 9/6.

Too bad "Just Can't Get Enough" didn't crack the Billboard "Hot 100"-I think it would've been a big hit.

Also in 2011, which has the same calendar as 2016 and 2022 (Christmas Day was a Sunday), regular weekly countdowns (12/22/79 and 12/26/87) were played on Christmas weekend and the year-end specials were played on the weekends of 12/31-1/1 and 1/7-1/8. So it can probably be assumed that December '22 will use the same schedule. What mellongraig posted is what I've posted a few times before that I think they should do, but my guess is that the year-end special will be the weekends of 12/25-12/26 and 1/1-1/2.

Not only does both the 12/12/1981 and 12/20/1980 shows have Jackie Wilson health updates, they also both occur in the middle of the third hour (this week's is after #17 and next week's is after #16). The only difference is next week's show isn't playing one of his songs after it like this week's does.

Hard to believe that it's been 40 years since Ringo Starr's last Top 40 appearance with "Wrack My Brain". Thank the good lord that he's still with us which brings me to my question-Has there been any other artist who is still alive today with a longer Top 40 drought? The only other one I could think of was Neil Sedaka whose last Top 40 was 41 years ago with "Should Have Never Let You Go".

Carol", written for Carole King, who is still alive and active despite also not hitting the pop top 40 since 1980.

Her last top 40 single was in the summer of 1968, when "Don't Give Up" reached #37. She last charted in early 1982 with the #66 single "Natural Love".

On this week's presentation from 12/12/81,Casey did an update on Jackie Wilson who suffered an on stage heart attack in the fall of 1975-He subsequently died at the age of 49 on 1/21/84.
