It was a strange choice to play the album version of The Reflex in its first week at #1. I was just noticing that. I wonder how many radio stations ever played that version vs. the single remix?

"Obscene Phone Caller" is as God-awful horrible as "Never Been to Me".

Rockwell had good momentum after the success of “Somebody’s Watching Me” and he followed it up with that song? Let’s face it, without Michael Jackson singing on “Somebody’s Watching Me” the song wouldn’t have been successful.

Hour #4: "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming (Too Good To Be True)" - Jermaine Jackson & Michael Jackson (NR) "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming" didn't make the Hot 100 as it wasn't issued as a 45, but got lots of airplay, reaching #6 in Radio & Records. Premiere finally picks "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming", which as mkarns said, was a top 10 hit on Radio & Records but didn't chart on the Hot 100 since Epic--MJ's label at the time--wouldn't allow it to be released as a single. A song that falls in the same category as Madonna's "Get Into the Groove"--a big radio hit that never got played on AT40. Boo hiss jeer -- Premiere cuts off this extra after the second verse and doesn't let the rest of it play out...in what's likely the only time it will ever be heard on AT40 - the 80's.

Has Premiere played in AT40: The 80's for OPTIONAL EXTRAS these never released as singles songs besides "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming" and "Into the Groove"?: "Trapped" by Bruce Springsteen (1985) "We Said Hello, Goodbye" by Phil Collins (1985) "Bad is Bad" by Huey Lewis and the News (1985) "Never Say Goodbye" by Bon Jovi (1987) "Edge of a Broken Heart" by Bon Jovi (1987) I know Premiere has played Madonna's "Spotlight" in a 1988 show.

Don't you mean "Back In Time" by Huey Lewis & The News? (Unless "Bad Is Bad" was a popular album cut (from Sports) in early 1985, right after "Walking On A Thin Line" had run its course. I don't recall that it ever was, though). "Never Say Goodbye" was offered as an Optional Extra with the 5/30/1987 show, back in 2014. Even though "We Said Hello, Goodbye" was remixed for the 1986 film Playing For Keeps, the radio stations in my area did not start playing it until early 1988. Chicago's Z95 began playing it in January and it made an appearance on their Top 30 playlist, peaking at #22. Then, around March of that year, WNDU in South Bend started playing the song, though it never hit their chart for some reason.

Another Huey Lewis and the News cut that got radio airplay without being released was their live version of "Trouble In Paradise" from the USA for Africa LP. And "Bad Is Bad" did get played a few times in early 1985 (on KQKQ in Omaha) -- in fact I recall thinking at the time that it was another release off Sports, but apparently they never did issue it as a 45.

For "Bad is Bad", a music video for that song was made but that song appeared on the B side of Huey Lewis' "The Power of Love".

"Obscene Phone Caller" is as God-awful horrible as "Never Been to Me". And before "Obscene Phone Caller" was played the rare #39 jingle was heard! This makes up for this 6/23/1984 AT40 show not playing the normal #40 jingle to lead off the #40 song of the remixed unreleased in 1973 Michael Jackson song "Farewell My Summer Love".

Huey's "Back In Time" has been used as a 1985 optional extra, more than once IIRC. "We Said Hello, Goodbye" got to #4 on the WAVA, Washington DC, playlist in March 1988. Not knowing the backstory behind the song's release (in 1986 it was the B side of "Take Me Home" but didn't appear on an official Collins album), I was baffled as to why I was hearing it constantly on top 40 radio but it never showed up on the national countdowns or MTV.

Sounds like most of the stations that played the song did so in early 1988. Not sure if one station randomly started playing the song and it spread from there, or what the deal was. But I am glad that they did play it, since I thought it was a cool song.
