WMGN is playing the August 17, 1985 show - what gives? It's VERY weird, but they did this Saturday with '70s shows, playing Aug '78 (in the morning) and Aug '76 in the evening, tho' they would bounce back-and-forth and play parts of the correct shows after every other commercial break.

WMGN is playing the August 17, 1985 show - what gives? WMGN aired both 8/21/76 & 8/12/78 the same day in 2018. It would be interesting to see if WMGN incorporates 8/17/85 from 2018 with the February 28, 1987 show tomorrow. I see WMGN is still stuck in 2018.

Well, halfway through, they switched to the correct show.
EDIT: And, after the commercial break, we're back in 1985.

We should complain to WMGN Magic 98 and fix the glitches on AT40: The 70's and AT40: The 80's broadcast - Or maybe drop the show for good.

Gotta be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of 1987 and 1988 shows. So this weekend I listened to the 1979 show that was offered up by the 70's and enjoyed it more than the 87 show. That was some good music back in 79!!

Update: This is a Facebook message I got when I sent a message to WMGN on Facebook: "We had some technical/computer issues this weekend. We’re working on it! Thanks for listening!"

That was some good music back in 79!! You are allowed to listen to both the '70s and '80s shows, you know. I do. '87 not my favorite year either, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Even with that talentless bimbo Samantha Fox taking up time at the start of the 4th hour. The '73 and '79 shows were, as expected, both excellent. Remembered hearing the '73 show when it first aired 47 years ago.

It's about time a show from March 1981 was to be aired. Nine years without a show from a certain month of a certain year is quite a dry spell, and to be honest, we're long overdue.
I also agree that 1988 should be on tap for the second weekend of 2020, though I have to admit, 1983 had better music.
I do happen to enjoy Samantha Fox's "Touch Me", as with all her other top ten records. There were some good songs in the 1987 show, including the very underplayed "Don't Need a Gun", which you might have had a hard time hearing on the radio back in 1987, and even in the years since. I also enjoy some of the music the 1987 show gave us, but my taste for top 40 music was in decline after August 1986 (and ironically, it was a couple of months afterwards that I started listening to AT40 in its entirety every week). I think the music video for "Dancing on the Ceiling" was what triggered my interest in music in 1986, but I honestly have to say, 1984 was when my interest in music peaked. In fact, 1984 was when a lot of my interests had reached their peak - including Saturday morning cartoons.

Listening to the 2/28/1987 show (again) on WQSR and this question just popped into my head while listening to the Every Breath You Take story: Were there any shows where someone dedicated it in a LDD after this show aired?

For me, 3-7-81 and 2-28-87 were almost like bookends to my favorite period of 80's music. 3-7-81 was an odd countdown with different genres with hard rock, country, and adult contemporary artists. 87 on the other hand, saw a bit of decline of 80's music IMO. If we had a 4-25-81/4-25-87 A and B pairing, I would prefer the 81 show just to give you an idea. 1983 has and always will be my favorite year of 80's music.

A couple of interesting coincidences: on February 2, 1985 Teena Marie debuted with "Lovergirl", and Casey noted that Billy Ocean's "Loverboy" was also in the countdown. Both became top 5 hits, and as we heard a few weeks ago they were back to back in the 1985 year end show, at 29 and 28. [...] On the 3/9/85-show both songs are back to back, too. At #12 (moving up 2) is "Lover Girl" and at #11 (moving down 6) is "Lover Boy".
... and this show will come next weekend ...

I thought the "sweet spot" of 80's music really ended in the fall of 1986, though late '86 still had some good moments, and 1987 had some great songs, but was pretty uneven at times. That period began for me in May 1983 or so--starting then you could count on at least 30 good to great songs on almost every AT40 countdown over the next 3-1/2 years or so. I like a lot of 1982, but I wasn't crazy about the winter of 82/83.
