^Actually, Pete sort of dropped a hint earlier this year that the year-ender would be 1985. I presume that they've been more sparing with the 1980 and 1981 shows basically for the same reason that they ended up nixing those shows during the AT40 Flashback days - the music from those years isn't as popular as the music from later in the 1980s.

I don't believe Casey ever acknowledged the 'Scooby-doo' scatting that JT Taylor did in 'Take my heart'.

WSUS Franklin NJ aired the first hour and a half of the 3/28/87 show, then switched to the Christmas countdown.

Slight quirk on KQEO, they played the last optional extra of 11/28/81 after the show ended.

Listening to 1981 I'm curious, was there ever a specific mention on AT40 that acknowledged MTV's first influence on the chart?

"Hey Paula" is one of the three "AT40 Archive" songs that was prominently featured on this week's countdown from 11/29/80-It was the first & biggest hit for the Texas based duo of Jill Jackson & Ray Hildebrand-As "Hey Paula" was climbing the charts in early 1963,the duo was part of Dick Clark's "Caravan Of Stars"-There were times when Ray Hildebrand was unable to appear-When that happened,Dick filled in for him-Obviously,Dick had to lip sync to the record since he wasn't known as a singer.

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess - 12/6/86 2nd Guess - 12/8/84
The two years now with the longest droughts in the 80's. 1986 is a week longer, and this is another show that hasn't aired since 2010. And shows last aired in 2010 seem to finally be getting another spin over the past few months...

November 28th, 1981 AT40 originates in Hollywood, I'm Casey Kasem, we've got 6 debut records in this week's survey, and here's one of them, it's ELO's follow-up to their Top 10 hit Hold On Tight, coming in at #38, Twilight...

I am a bit surprised that in November, when there is no (pop) B show, the two years 1981 and 1980 were selected for two consecutive weeks.

I am a bit surprised that in November, when there is no (pop) B show, the two years 1981 and 1980 were selected for two consecutive weeks. I'm not that surprised; it's been eight and nine years, respectively, since those shows have aired. Both years were due for a turn anyway during the cycle of Christmas show offerings; doubtful Premiere would've gone that entire time without airing both years, and I think the back-to-back thing is not really much considered with show selection, much like certain shows ending in the same year digit as the current year (such as 1979) finding favor over shows from other years. I don't think Premiere cares about that (7/4/1970 and 8/6/1988 may be the only exceptions there) when it comes to show selections in a particular year, and the lists support those findings. I think it's just something we look for as listeners that likely isn't there.
