Mix1077 (Iheart) out of Dayton should have bonus Casey on tomorrow (Labor Day) from 6 -10 AM Eastern. It will most likely be the 1987 show. You were right!

When 9/7/85 last aired in 2011 and 2015, these were the optional extras: "Part-Time Lover" - Stevie Wonder (#43; highest debut) "Miami Vice Theme" - Jan Hammer (#59) "I'm Goin' Down" - Bruce Springsteen (#48) "And She Was" - Talking Heads (#94) I am thinking they will stay the same for the third time this year, would be shocked if any were changed. You're right. The optional extras stay the same.

Prediction for next show:
9/19/81
With a near 4 month drought of 1981 shows it pretty much has to be this one. The only other show that would work is 9/8/84 but surely 1984 waits until the last week of September.

The only other show that would work is 9/8/84 but surely 1984 waits until the last week of September. 9/13/80 could also work as well but given how light 1981 is, I'm going with 9/19/81 as well to end the main A show drought for 1981. Probably 1986 would be the B show, I don't see 1987 as a B here.

I wouldn't be surprised to see 9/20 or 9/27/86 as a standalone this month, as after 1981 it's the year with the longest drought--though not too long; 1986 was last done by itself the third weekend in July, so that year could easily slip until October. And just having had 1985 and 1987 probably neither will be the B. 1983 is the only other B possibility in that case. It's also possible 1981 might not air until October (9/26/81 was done just two years ago so probably too soon for rerunning), but a drought of more than four months is pretty extreme though not unprecedented. While we often get thrown curves, 9/29/84 seems like a logical choice for the last week of September, as it's as close to unplayed as a Casey-hosted 1980s AT40 can be by now. Premiere has played it once, in 2007, and never since.

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess - 9/19/81 2nd Guess - 9/20/86
It's going to have to be some show that strays from the current date a little more than usual. I actually think these might be our next two shows. Hard to believe they will hold off any longer on 1981. Both of these shows last aired in 2015, though 9/19/81 was offered as a 'B' at that time--its last airing as an 'A' was in 2011.

Regarding this week's August 29, 1987 show... ...Casey fulfilled three Long Distance Dedication requests. ...George Michael's "I Want Your Sex" appeared in the countdown. Did Casey offer the song's title during this program? He did not, furthering the inaccurate belief that he *never* did. In fact, he (or guest host Charlie Van Dyke) mentioned the title on occasion, including 9/19/87 (the song's last week in the countdown) and 9/26/87, as part of a list of singles which had fallen out of the Top 40. Some other things I found notable: Casey did a story about Tower of Power, whose horn section backed up Huey Lewis & the News on their countdown hit, and we hear it in the same week that the 70s countdown included one of TOP's original hits, "Don't Change Horses (In the Middle of a Stream)". Another Tower member, singer Lenny Williams, hit AT40 soon after singing Kenny G's hit "Don't Make Me Wait For Love". In this countdown we hear the album version of Whitesnake's "Here I Go Again". Usually AT40 played the single remix, though the version heard this week is the one that gets the recurrent play and so will be more familiar to current listeners. This is one of a number of 1987 shows that feature a hit from Smokey Robinson along with ABC's salute to him, "When Smokey Sings". But Smokey didn't write the hit included here, "One Heartbeat"--something I didn't know or forgot about until Casey pointed it out here. I thought I would never hear a good verison of "Here I Go Again"....again....although the album version is not the one getting recurrent play I constantly hear. I hear the terrible remix with the horns and the guitar muted. Thank you Premiere for finally playing the song as it is intended.

Someone needs to prep the previous optional extras for 1981 *and* 1983. So we must be getting 9/19/81 in the next couple of weeks. These optionals were used for it before (2011 by itself, and 2015 as a B): "Theme From 'Hill Street Blues'" - Mike Post featuring Larry Carlton "Say Goodbye To Hollywood" - Billy Joel "Our Lips Are Sealed" - The Go-Go's "At This Moment" - Billy Vera & The Beaters And if the B is 9/17/83 (it could also be 9/10 or 24), these were the optional extras used last year as a standalone: "All Night Long" - Lionel Richie "Old Time Rock 'n' Roll" - Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band "Modern Love" - David Bowie "Cum on Feel the Noize" - Quiet Riot

Previous OE's for that one (aired previously in 2017, 2012 and 2007): Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Suddenly Last Summer" - The Motels (#44) Hour #2: "Foolin'" - Def Leppard (#67) Hour #3: "If Anyone Falls" - Stevie Nicks (#61; highest debut) Hour #4: "Heart And Soul" - Huey Lewis & The News (#83; debuted)
