I'm leaning more towards 1982, since it's only been played four times this year (as the A show). Right--the tea leaves all currently point toward 1982. Premiere could always do something unexpected and play 1984, but based on their recent track record '84 is likely out of consideration since it was just played last week. 1982 has been light this year, and will not have been played since the first week in November. Add to it that '82 is the only year ender besides 1986 that hasn't been played in full. Add to that, Premiere's selection of 1980 last year would indicate that they plan to replay those handful of year end specials in which the only the top half was originally played. Just one guy's two cents...

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess - 12/20/80 2nd Guess - 12/28/85
I bucked popular opinion and went with 1980 for the coming weekend while assuming 12/17/83 would go for the weekend of Dec 19/20. Turns out popular opinion was correct...so I'll go that route this time around.

Now that Dec 17, 1983 is going to be aired this weekend, all Casey-hosted regular shows in the second half of 1983 has been chosen by Premiere, just like 1982.
For the second half of 1982, only the first part of the year-end show has not been aired by Premiere.

I'm thinking that, if they start the year-end show in early January (which would be a good idea, given the slim pickings of early January shows), that 12/28/85 would be an ideal show for the last weekend in December - or possibly even 12/27/86, another regular weekly show.

Did Casey ever continue the AT40 Archives during his year-end countdowns?

Did Casey ever continue the AT40 Archives during his year-end countdowns? No, year end countdowns were just the 100 or however many hits of the year as ranked either by Billboard or, sometimes, by the AT40 staff. Except for AT40-created montages of the year's #1 hits, they did not have Archives, Long Distance Dedications, or other extras.

All right. That's good to know. How many songs were played on average per hour?

All right. That's good to know. How many songs were played on average per hour? During the 80s, it was always either 12 or 13 songs in a given hour - no more, no less. From what I've noticed (I have all of them except for 1982), they were very meticulous about that.

I agree Hervard--I've posted that a few times before. Given the lack of January shows (and conversely, the availability of a few late December shows), it would make too much sense for Premiere to hold off on playing the year-end special until the first two weekends in January. They must feel like it's better to air the Top 100's the weekends before and after New Year's, but IMHO they should consider bumping things back one week...

Instead, Christmas songs from Elton John, Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby were played at the end of the first three hours.

Oh..... I misunderstood. What a relief. I thought Premiere would try to pull another edit job.
