A couple of random notes from the 11/8/80 show, which I've just gotten around to listening to:
In his intro to "Upside Down", Casey said something like "In its xth week in the Top 40, and it's been in the Top 10 for all x weeks" -- not a statement Casey got to make very often! Even my non-AT40-fan wife picked up on the implications of that, and asked me, "Does that mean it debuted inside the Top 10"?
A bit later in the show, Casey told a story about his going to a California Angels game as a guest of sportscaster Ernie Harwell, and running into singer Jose Feliciano there -- a rare instance of Casey speaking about his personal life/things he did in his spare time.

Looks like KKPR had an issue during #1 of last week's show where a Tom Petty song started playing over the end of the show. As I'm trying to find a good replacement station for AT40 the 80s, this was a real drag.

Impressive movement by Upside Down...from 49 to 10 on 8/10/80. Didn't recall the song achieving that feat.

Looks like KKPR had an issue during #1 of last week's show where a Tom Petty song started playing over the end of the show. As I'm being trying to find a good replacement station for AT40 the 80s, this was a real drag. I've used WMLX the past two weekends with KKLZ and WQSR as back-ups. WMLX delivered a perfect show this weekend as far as I could tell, though they came in late from a commercial on the Anne Murray song for the 1980 show last week.

The MSU/PSU contest on 11/29 now has a 3:30 kickoff time confirmed according to ESPN. Which means the show will come on already in progress during the 8:00 pm hour. The last time they had a 3:30 kickoff, the show came on around 25 to 9 at #34.

As I'm trying to find a good replacement station for AT40 the 80s, this was a real drag. An alert to be wary of KKPR, I attempted to listen to the 80s show I had recorded on dar.fm and the first hour went fine, however the 2nd hour was interrupted by a volleyball game, and then the countdown was joined in progress for the top 10 before the snafu of the Tom Petty song. Does anyone have a reliable station for recording from dar.fm?

Over time, I've come to use the following as my go-to stations. I can't guarantee that they'll never have any problems, but they're usually pretty reliable, and usually play all the optional extras. Caveats noted below.
WGHN -- runs '80s AT40 at 6 p.m. Eastern on Saturday and '70s AT40 at 6 p.m. Eastern on Sunday. As discussed over the past few pages, AT40 is sometimes pre-empted for Michigan State sports, so you need to keep an eye on the MSU schedule, especially during football season (I think WGHN also carries men's basketball). If you can steer clear of that, however, they are usually reliable, and I'm not sure if I've ever heard them drop an optional extra. Like most '70s AT40 affiliates, only broadcasts the final three hours of 4-hour shows from 1978-79.
KOKZ -- runs '70s AT40 at 10 a.m. Eastern on Saturday and '80s AT40 at 9 a.m. Eastern on Sunday. One of the few '70s affiliates that runs full 4-hour shows from 1978-79 (on those weeks, the '70s countdown will start an hour earlier than normal, at 9 a.m. Eastern). Usually plays all optional extras but does drop one once in a while. Does not run '80s shows from later than early 1987 because they feel the music on these shows is too late in time to fit their format (was once late '86 but has moved forward over time as they have added music to their playlist from later in the '80s); on weeks when Premiere is running such a show, KOKZ will rerun a show from a previous year with the current week's network commercials spliced in. Generally reliable but I have experienced a few issues from time to time with wonky-sounding feeds (stereo issues, brief skipping during shows).
WODC -- runs '70s AT40 at 9 a.m. Eastern on Sunday. Does not carry the '80s show. One of the few '70s affiliates that runs full 4-hour shows. Usually plays all optional extras but does drop one once in a while. When two different '70s shows are offered, they will usually run both, the only Premiere affiliate that does this. The second show is generally on Saturday or Sunday evening; on two-show weeks it's always best to check to see which shows WODC is running at what times. Shows run in the evening have a tendency to run way over on time, so dar.fm should be set to record for at least half an hour beyond the scheduled end time. When a four-hour show from 1978-79 is run in the regular Sunday morning time slot, the show starts an hour earlier than normal, at 8 a.m. Eastern (but since the four-hour shows tend to be run on two-show weeks, note that the four-hour shows aren't always run in the regular Sunday mornng time slot). Flips to Christmas early, making them of limited use for AT40 listening in November and December.
KCLH -- runs both '70s and '80s AT40 multiple times, but I listen/record on Saturday evening, when they have the '70s show at 6:00 Eastern followed by the '80s show at 9:00 Eastern. Like most '70s AT40 affiliates, only broadcasts the final three hours of 4-hour shows from 1978-79. Usually plays all optional extras but does drop one once in a while (more often than KOKZ). Generally reliable but I have experienced a few issues from time to time with wonky-sounding feeds (static, brief skips during shows).

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess: 11/28/87 2nd Guess: 11/27/82
Either of these would be a strong possibility, but since 1982 would be a good candidate for the year-end special, I'm going to go with '87. If PRN were to stray from the usual tendency to avoid playing two shows from the same year in the same month, 1985 wouldn't be out of the question.

Thank you mct1, I will try KCLH this weekend Remember, the 70's show is a 4 hour one this weekend. You might want to try KOKZ just to give yourself a good shot at getting the first hour.

Anyone think that we might get one more 1987 show snuck in before late December? Rick in South Omaha
