Here are this week's optional extras: Hour 1- "Paper In Fire" by John Cougar Mellencamp Hour 2- "Breakout" by Swing Out Sister Hour 3- "I Think We're Alone Now" by Tiffany Hour 4- "Something Real" by Mr. Mister
The last one I found rather strange, cuz the song was not that big, despite the fact that it was the Hot Shot Debut that week.
I was expecting them to play "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" cuz it was a smash that fell out of the 40 that week.
As for the countdown, I haven't heard the whole thing yet, but it was okay so far. The part that made me kind of chuckle was when Casey said, "When's the last time you heard a xylophone in a record" when outroing Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam's "Lost In Emotion".

I'm sure it will likely be included unless you're listening to WRVF in Toledo that is.

I wonder if they will include or delete Show Me by Joe Tex. It's included on the rebroadcast, after song #7.

"Valley Girl" turned out to be Frank Zappa's only record to reach the top 40-However,he made the "Billboard Hot 100" with "Don't Eat The Yellow Snow" (1974) & "Dancing Fool" (1979).

Here were the optional extras:
Hour 1: "Mickey" by Toni Basil Hour 2: "You Dropped A Bomb On Me" by The Gap Band Hour 3: "The One You Love" by Glenn Frye Hour 4: "Up Where We Belong" by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes
This show was rather good, considering the fact that I do not listen to pre-1983 shows that often, but there are still a few gems on here that made this show a great one.
As for next week's show, I think 1983 or 1986, or even earlier.

Not really surprised at "You Dropped A Bomb On Me" or "The One You Love", as those are probably the only non-obscure songs that debuted the week after, despite all the others being by well-known acts. A little surprised about "Up Where We Belong" as that was 4 weeks away from debuting, and "Mickey" didn't debut for another 5 weeks! I thought "Don't You Want Me" or "Tainted Love" would've been an extra, as both fell out of the top 40 that week, and are both still among the most played 80's songs to this day.

The last two songs were well-known songs that debuted in the Hot 100 that week. If I remember, Mickey took a very long time to get to number one, but it did in December, for like one week. What irked me just a teensy bit is that that song prevented one of my favorite songs, "Gloria" by Laura Branigan, which was waiting at number 2 for Lionel to slip with "Truly" so she can climb to the top, but Basil leapfrogged her, but oh well, that was the charts back then, and whatever happened happened.

I listened to the beginning of the show just now.....I had to find out what song @ #39 that was laura's favorite song. I didn't even know at40 re-played all of the top3 songs back in those days at the start of the show.
