For 8/24/1974: Casey mentioned for a hint that for the only artist to make the top 5 with an instrumental and a vocal isn't Herb Alpert (since the correct answer goes to Billy Preston - with "Outa Space" instrumental and "Will It Go Round in Circles" vocal), but 5 years later Herb Alpert, who hit #1 and in the top 5 in 1968 with a vocal of "This Guys in Love With You" would go to #1 and into the top 5 with the instrumental "Rise" in 1979!

On this week's 1979 show Turbo Casey said After the Love Is Gone "looks like a sure Fire #1". It would stop one place short.

As couple reverse jinx from last week. In 1987 commentary Casey said Los Lobos were hungry for a #1. They would soon La Bamba at the top just like Ross when she turned the summit Upside Down after the 1980 Casey said that is where Diana was headed.

Reverse jinx for America on September 4, 1982 when Casey listed all their top 10 hits. "You Can Do Magic" would join them later.

On 9/10/83, Casey talks about Smokey Robinson's long streak of hitting the Hot 100 every year since the early 1960s. After 1983, he wouldn't hit again for four years.

On today's 9-7-74 show, Casey stated that Paul Anka broke Stevie Wonder's record for longest time between #1s. In 1987, Aretha Franklin would break that record.

On today's 9-7-74 show, Casey stated that Paul Anka broke Stevie Wonder's record for longest time between #1s. In 1987, Aretha Franklin would break that record. At least Paul got to hold the title for 12+ years. Aretha would only keep it for a year and a half, before surrendering it to The Beach Boys.

Also on 9/10/1993: Casey mentioned that "Islands in the Stream" by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton was their first top 40 duet together, but Dolly wouldn't make AT40 again but Kenny would hit AT40 2 more times.

On 1981s show Casey said having hits was like riding a bike for Lulu. After 'Miss You she would never get on that top 40 bike again.

On 1981s show Casey said having hits was like riding a bike for Lulu. After 'Miss You she would never get on that top 40 bike again. Which is too bad, as I like both of her 'comeback' songs, this one and 1970's "Oh Me Oh My (I'm a Fool For You Baby)". Her follow-up to this one, "If I Were You", came close, reaching #44 in January 1982.

On 9-15-73 show, Casey predicts that My Maria by B. W. Stevenson, at #14, is headed to the Top 10, then says may be Top 5 and possibly all the way to #1.
Song barely made the Top 10, peaking at #9; however, it is still one of my favorites.

Maybe this has already been mentioned. In September 1975 Casey said it looks like nothing can stop the Carpenters. This just as Neil Sedaka had given the big #1 hit to A&M's new M/F family act while he gave the Carpenters a deck of cards for Solitaire.
So I guess Neil Sedaka stopped them. Or Casey. Or the two of them.

On last week's 1982 show Casey said McCartney was twelve short of catching Bing Crosby's 63 top tenner record and his pursuit showed no signs of slowing down. 40 years later and Paul has only scored a handful of additional top tenners.
On the same show Casey said Summer had an explosive top tenner average 12 outta sixteen top 40s. Donna would only reach the top ten a couple more times.

On AT40: The 70's 9/29/1973 there were 2 guesses for #1 the next week: "Let's Get It On" by Marvin Gaye returning to #1 and "We're An American Band" by Grand Funk remaining at #1. But the next week on 10/6/1973 "Half Breed" by Cher moved into the #1 spot, even though that week there was an AT40 Special.

On AT40: The 80's 10/3/1987: Casey mentioned "One Heartbeat" by Smokey Robinson is Smokey's 8th. top 10 overall including Smokey's hits with the Miracles - and Smokey's fourth top 10 solo. But after that, Smokey would never make the AT40 reaches again.
