On 07/05/1970 Casey wished a happy birthday to Louis Armstrong, who died on 07/06/1971. Seems like many people die right after their birthdays, or right after the holidays, which we have seen happen again this year. 'Satchmo' was actually born on August 4, 1901, so not in this case. For many years his bio had a false DOB of July 4, 1900. I believe the birthday/holiday death thing is an 'urban legend', not borne out by statistics. LOL so I was wrong twice! Not bad for a Monday. But that was even jinxier since Casey had his birthday wrong.

On AT40: The 80's 1/31/1987 Casey mentioned Survivor first hit the chart in 1981 with "Poor Man's Son" to tie in with their 8th. top 40 hit "Is This Love", little did Casey know Survivor would never have another top 40 hit after "Is This Love".

Casey made a similar statement to the one about Survivor on the 1976 show when he said the Miracles had charted in 17 consecutive years. But they would not never chart again after "Love Machine". Btw I just realized that Casey made a mistake in saying it was 17 years. Their first chart appearance came in 1959. This show is in 1976. That is 18 years not 17 years. A lot of people make that kind of mistake however!

Casey almost jinxed Linda Ronstadt in the 2/5/83 show, when he ticked off her long list of hit remakes and said that all she needed was one more to tie with Donny Osmond as the all time champ of charting remakes. It took Linda nearly seven years to do so, with the Aaron Neville duet "Don't Know Much" in 1989-90, which had previously charted--but not in the top 40--in versions by Bill Medley and Bette Midler.

I knew at the time that Elton wasn't "...headed for another big number one..." with "Grow Some Funk Of Your Own", despite what Casey proclaims on this 2/14/76 show. But I did think it would probably scrape the bottom of the top 10, not stall at #14 two weeks later.

On this week's 1982 show, Casey refers to Kenny Rogers as the "1980s king of the charts." He would not hold that title much longer. Michael Jackson saw to that!

A hint of this may have been in the same show, when Casey answered a question about the solo artist with the most top 10 hits from one album. The answer was MJ with "Off the Wall" and its four top 10's, and within the next few years Michael and several others matched or broke that record.

It's always amusing to me hearing statistics like this, knowing how many albums would eventually spawn 5+ hits within just a few years.

What were the first albums to spawn 4 top 40 hits/top 10 hits, you might ask? They would be the Stylistics debut album with their first 4 top 40 hits so you have to go all the way back to 1971 for that one. Fleetwood Mac's Rumours is the first album to spawn 4 top 10 hits, released in 1977. I think that is also the second non-soundtrack album with 4 top 40 hits on it.

On last week's Supersized 1976 show Casey said when you are hot you're hot and Sedaka was hot. He'd never have another top tenner as a performer again.

A Dick Clark jinx: when guest hosting in 1972, he said “Keep your eye on T.Rex!” But that week’s “Bang a Gong (Get It On)” was their only US top 40 hit. By contrast, in Britain they were so popular at the time Casey called their reception “Rexmania”.

I guess T-Rex's "Bang a Gong (Get it On)" was the only top 40 appearance of "Rexmania" in the USA that couldn't top the 1960's Beatle-mania, but who remembers in 1976-1978 "Wild Cherry Mania" on Billboard's Hot 100? The only top 40 hit for Wild Cherry called "Play That Funky Music" which went to #1, but 5 or 6 follow up records by Wild Cherry never made the top 40/AT40 reaches.

Not really a jinx, but Casey said of Elton John on 2/15/86, “Here’s a guy who keeps landing on round numbers”. This was a lead in to “Nikita”, which ultimately peaked at the prime number of #7.
And in the same show Casey mused about what an event it would be if Stevie Wonder equalled Elvis Presley’s record of solo top 10s. After the then-charting “Go Home” Stevie would never have another on the pop chart.

Album was released on 8-31-64.

In a reverse jinx on last week's Supersized 1975 show Casey said 'Mellow was headed to #1 for ONJ.
