Casey begins the top 100 of 1981 by pointing out that Andy Gibb has made every year-end list since he began charting. He would never chart again.

On the AT40 Top 80 of 1972 Casey mentioned the group Chakakas who were in the 1972 year-ender with "Jungle Fever" came from Belgium and Casey said there's no other music group to come from Belgium - but it would be not until 1989 when a Belgian dance music group called Technotronic (featuring Felly and Ya Kid K) made the top 40 charts in the USA. Also on the same show, Casey mentioned that "American Pie" was the longest #1 song to date and that the record would stand for quite some time. That some time, which Casey sadly did not live to see (but Don McLean himself has lived to see his record be broken), was 51 years - Taylor Swift broke the record last year with "All Too Well", which is 10 minutes long (specifically 10:13).

Call it the Curse of Mark Elliott. He said on the 1/6/79 show that Nicolette Larson was one of the hottest new female singers in the country. She'd only scrape the bottom of AT40 once more a year and a half later w/Michael McDonald. Then he reverse jinxed Clapton when he said it looked like Promises could become his 3rd top tenner.

"...and Ben Marischal (sp?)says, 'Look out, that could be number one!'" A 'double jinx' by both Casey and Ben. "Oh Babe, What Would You Say" would come close, peaking at #3.

On this week's 1979 show Casey said Nigel Olsson was finally stepping outta Elt's shadow. The drummer would only inch onto the top 40 one more time.

If I remember correctly, Casey, when talking about "Something About The Way You Look Tonight" at some point said, Elton John was, "unstoppable". That would be Elton's last Top 40 hit. In 2022 Elt would end that jinx in style.

Just can't remember if it was during the intro or outro to "Cold Heart". Either way, I think that's got to be a long, long time...

Didn't make the top 10, though, IMO, I thought it should have. ETA: On Casey's Hot 20 (Hot AC), it was at #2 for several weeks, including the first three shows. CH20 premiered on 11/5/1994. On Casey's Countdown, it did hit #1 for six weeks.

In a Supersized 1978 reverse jinx Casey said Andy Gibb was headed for a top tenner. He would soon join BeeGees for a top of the chart blockade which included Stayin' Alive who Casey also reverse jinxed saying it looked like the Bros could have another #1 from 'Fever.

On 07/05/1970 Casey wished a happy birthday to Louis Armstrong, who died on 07/06/1971.
Seems like many people die right after their birthdays, or right after the holidays, which we have seen happen again this year.

Seems like many people die right after their birthdays, or right after the holidays, which we have seen happen again this year. 'Satchmo' was actually born on August 4, 1901, so not in this case. For many years his bio had a false DOB of July 4, 1900. I believe the birthday/holiday death thing is an 'urban legend', not borne out by statistics.
