Chicago did TV specials in the 70's when Kath was with them.

I'm certain thy appeared on one or more of the three late-night rock music shows of the '70s: ABC's "In Concert", NBC's "Midnight Special", and the syndicated "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert". And I seem to remember seeing them on at least one prime-time variety show of the era.

A long-range jinx on 11/8/80: Casey calls Christopher Cross "unstoppable." He must have seemed that way in 1980 but after 1981 he would not have the same chart success again.

On AT40: The 80's 11/13/1982: Casey mentioned the duet by Eddie Rabbitt and Crystal Gayle "You and I" was their first time together - but this song was the last time these 2 country artists would cross over in the top 40 pop reaches of the Billboard Hot 100, but Eddie and Crystal would still make the Country charts for more years.

On AT40: The 80's 11/19/1983: Casey mentioned for the question regarding the year with the least instrumentals in the rock era, and Casey said this year there were no instrumentals with some weeks to go in 1983 - the year 1983, of course! The next year - 1984 - also had no instrumentals! Then you have 1986, 1989, 1990, 1992, and 1994 for other original incarnation AT40 years with no instrumentals!

I would have counted it if Casey mentioned something along the lines of maybe 1984 would have the first instrumental in a while.

I would have counted it if Casey mentioned something along the lines of maybe 1984 would have the first instrumental in a while. I call it the lack of top 40 instrumentals jinx. Though if you included Casey's Top 40 sources 1992 had an instrumental make the R&R Top 40 used for CT40 and Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 called "Bang Bang" by David Sanborn, but "Bang Bang" didn't make Shadoe AT40 since it never reached the top 40 on Billboard's Radio Monitor which was the chart source for AT40 at the time. There was an instrumental on the relaunch of AT40 in March 1998 called "Southampton" by James Horner, and in 2001 we had on AT40 the instrumental "Sandstorm" by Darude.

Another jinx from November 19, 1983: Casey noted that the Police's album "Synchronicity", in its 17th week at #1, was the third longest running #1 album from a group, behind Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" (31 weeks) and "More of the Monkees" (18). Casey said that the Police were clearly "chasing the Monkees' tail" and looked as if they would catch it. But that week was "Synchronicity"'s last at #1.

There was a reverse jinx also for 11/19/1983: Casey mentioned there are a record 18 and a 1/2 British acts in that week's 11/19/1983, 3 years later that record would be broken with 20 British acts in the top 40.

11/30/74: Casey predicts "When Will I See You Again" will hit #1 (wrong) as well as "Kung Fu Fighting" (right).
He also mentions the nickname Bachman Turner Overweight for BTO, which he said they didn't consider a problem at the time, but I've heard it given as an explanation of why they didn't stay successful much longer.

12/11/76: Casey noted that Barry DeVorzon composed the theme from "S.W.A.T.", a #1 earlier that year, and said that DeVorzon was shooting for #1 again with "Nadia's Theme", which was at #8 that week and went no higher.
Chart positions aside, though, it's held up well: 45 years later it's still heard every weekday as the theme to "The Young and the Restless". (And S.W.A.T. has been rebooted in a version that's lasted longer than the 70s original did.)
The Bee Gees' "Love So Right" was also jinxed when Casey said they're "trying to make it to #1 with this one", at its peak of #3. (Casey also jinxed it with an even more definitive prediction in the last 1976 show we heard, in October.) But don't shed any tears for Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb, who would get there six times in the next two and a half years.

On this week's 1983 show Casey said it looked like the guys had another #1 on their hands. Climbing Say It Isn't So would peak right there at #2 for H&O.

On AT40: The 70's 12/15/1973 a question letter to Casey asked if all 4 Beatles made #1 on Billboard's Album Chart with their own solo albums. Casey mentioned John, Paul, and George had an album hit #1 on the album chart, but Ringo hasn't yet - and oddly, Ringo would never have a #1 album solo at all.

On last week's 1983 show Casey declared.. with a track record like Barry Manimellow, it is no wonder he has just released a 2nd greatest hits album. He would never reach the top 40 again.
