There was only one new record in the Top 10 this week. "Let Her In" was replaced by "Let 'Em In". LOL.

Surprised to hear Casey mis-announce the #34 debut song as "Play The Funky Music". I know Casey records his comments separate from the actual song being played....but couldn't someone on his staff listen to the song and notice Wild Cherry sings "Play That Funky Music"?
I am aware that the song was originally listed as "Play The Funky Music" when it debuted 06/19/76 on the HOT 100. But the title was corrected by Billboard on the 07/31/76 chart.

It's doubtful that the staff was actually going off the published page in Billboard. Chances are, Billboard sent them a list earlier so they could get the show recorded. And it's still possible that the song was titled incorrectly at that point.

Since we're hearing the 8-1-70 show, will it be the Billboard chart one week ahead, that is 8-8-70 ? A lot of the old charts during that period are on Google Books, and I like to look at the entire Hot 100 to see what songs just barely missed the Top 40 of the week. Thanks!

Based on this logic, his staff should have told him to introduce the Brothers Johnson song "Strawberry Letter 23" as "Strawberry Letter 22".

No it can't be the chart dated 8/8/70, they played that last year. If it is the chart dated 8/1/70 as I suspect, it will piggyback off of SXM this week.

dukedeb are you sure? It is confusing when the date the episode aired is one date, and chart is from the next week. Is it possible that it was the 8-8 show and the 8-15 chart? Of course Pete or JD will give us the information with the cue sheet today or tomorrow and we'll know for sure.

Yes I am sure, they played the show in which Groovy Situation debuted at 40 and that is the chart date of 8/8/70.

Casey is good despite his mistakes...lol He seems to know what is going to hit #1 many times and now it seems that he knew who was going to be president! So a Jimmy Carter reference this week and a Richard Nixon mention in a song next week. Where's Gerald Ford...lol Back to making mistakes? How can Joan Weber be the greatest disappearing act of all time? Is this some kind of subjective determination based on how they disappeared? It is a compelling story of her disappearing but basing something on subjective criteria is questionable IMO. The Gerald Ford reference finally came in 1978 with Falling by LeBlanc And Carr. Casey never mentioned Ford, but it was implied. You know...Falling. Ford fell down a lot. Never mind.

As far as a '70s single mentioning Gerald Ford, the closest we get is Dickie Goodman's single "Gerry Ford - A Special Report" (which I bought at its time of release). But it didn't make the top 40.
