Casey promo-ed his upcoming special "The #1 Songs of the Past Forty 4th of Julys" -- I don't remember hearing that show in '76, does anyone? Did he actually play a bunch of songs from the '30s & '40s?

Did he actually play a bunch of songs from the '30s & '40s? I didn't hear it then (I was not quite one year old), but Casey did play the #1 song from each July 4th from 1937 to 1976. And that countdown did include a notable mistake; for 1938 he intended to play "Says My Heart" by the Ozzie Nelson Orchestra, with Harriet Nelson singing, but instead the wrong album cut was played, an instrumental called "Whoa Babe". That makes me wonder, what was the oldest song ever played in full on AT40? I'm thinking it was Bing Crosby's 1935 rendition of "Silent Night", on 12/26/70. Premiere incidentally deleted "Silent Night" when they played that countdown in December 2010.

What's up with CKWS ? During breaks they are playing the same songs that were just played during the show! Right after "Play That Funky Music" was played as an extra they played it again. I guess that's really playing that funky music

I guess that's really playing that funky music Every once in a while they play a song from the countdown as filler during a commercial break. This is probably the first (maybe second) time in at least three months that I've heard them do that. In late Winter, there were a few weeks in a row that this happened.

Sorry to break the news to you, Brian. Here are this week's extras: “PLAY THAT FUNKY MUSIC” – Wild Cherry “A FIFTH OF BEETHOVEN” – Walter Murphy “THE THRILL IS GONE” – B.B. King [/quote] Wow, I got all of them correct - the first time ever for the 1970s version of the show!

AT40 First: The 6/19/76 show is the first show in which Shuckatoom plays at the beginning of hours 2 and 3. Before, it was the hard electronic moog theme. This would last until 9/22/79, when the horn one replaced it.

They also edited out the end of the second hour comments by Casey and closing theme. I listened to 2 different stations to confirm. He gives the outro to the Doobie Brothers and it went immediately to a commercial. Surely there wasn't a mistake of some kind there that they edited out? No, no mistake. Casey closed the hour by mentioning that the Doobie Brothers moved up a couple of notches to #14. Must've been a time issue, as if they ran short at the end of the hour. That's all it could be...especially if any of those songs were dubbed by Premiere. The timing Shannon-cue-sheet v Premiere-cue-sheet looks roughly the same.

This would last until 9/22/79, when the horn one replaced it. This one also ended with only the "Shuckatoom" theme. I've heard countdowns from November 1975 to as late as August 1976 which ended with two themes: first the moog theme used since 1973 which Casey talked over, then when he was done "Shuckatoom" started up.

Regarding the Bicentennial Countdown that aired in 1976,"AT40" affiliates across the country were given the option of playing it-According to Pete's book "AT40-The 70's",WMET in Chicago chose to air the first countdown from 7/4/70 instead.

Nope. They re-aired the previous week's countdown (6/26/1976) instead. As Pete said a few pages back, WDHF (the Chicago station as it was known then) did not air the 6/26 show in its' normal week and then on the following weekend that show aired instead of the Bicentennial show.

So, what's next weekend's show going to be? I hope it's from 1973! You're in luck! The next episode of "AT40: The '70s" is from 6/23/1973. www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/06-23-73.pdfThis show previously aired two years ago. No extra guesses this week since they're the same as last time (I checked): "Feelin' Stronger Everyday" - Chicago "The Morning After" - Maureen McGovern "Delta Dawn" - Helen Reddy
