Earlier this year we had 4/23/1977 and 5/7/1977, although there was a 3 week gap. We've also had 2 other 3-week-gaps between 1977 episodes this year.
Make no mistake, Premiere's math deliberately puts more weight on the later-70's shows coming up with greater frequency, and when you factor in the hiccups caused by guest-hosted shows and special countdowns...

Still patiently waiting for a 1970 show...

Still patiently waiting for a 1970 show... Maybe 8/1/1970 for the first weekend of August 2024? Or 8/8/1970?

Interesting that two of the songs would break records for the biggest drop from its peak posiiton--"Beach Baby" 4 to 26, and "Nothing From Nothing" 1 to 15 (then would tie with "Then Came You."

I would have preferred a 7-30-77 show, being that is closer to the show date of 7-27-24.

They just played 7/30/1977 as a B show last year. Not that that would necessarily preclude it from being chose again so soon, but...

I'd think that they'd wait a little longer before doing 1977 again even as a B. This may indicate that the first August show will be either 8/5/78 or 8/4/79, each of which has only been the A once, in 2016 and 2012 respectively. I'm not all that thrilled getting 74 either so soon, just 4 weeks after Ken/WTOJs historic presentation.

This week's optional extras:
A: July 27, 1974:
Hour #1: "Nothing From Nothing" - Billy Preston (#50) Hour #2: "Beach Baby" - First Class (#74) Hour #3: "Clap For The Wolfman" - The Guess Who (#61)
B: July 23, 1977:
Hour #1: "Dead Man's Curve" - Jan & Dean Hour #2: "A Taste Of Honey" - Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass Hour #3: "Lean On Me" - Bill Withers
None of the 1977 extras were in the original show or moving up the chart; presumably they are related to stories Casey told or questions he answered in the show. Incidentally, "Lean On Me" was #1 five years ago that week.

First Class was a British studio group that featured Tony Burrows on lead vocals-He was also the lead vocalist with the groups White Plains,Brotherhood Of Man,& The Pipkins whose songs were heard on the initial episode of "AT40" on the July 4th weekend of 1970.

Layng Martine got local airplay in my area (Southern AZ) back in the late summer of '71 with his original version. It reached 65 on the Hot 100 (8 weeks), but not until early November. Yet another 'summer' song that peaked well into the fall.
