The gentleman who filled in for Casey on 2/7/76 was the late Jerry Bishop-Jerry spent several years at WDRC in Hartford,CT-He subsequently was the announcer on the long running TV series "Judge Judy".

On this week's 8/24/74 countdown, Casey wrapped up the intro/story to Grand Funk's "Shinin' On" with a lighthearted, first-person comment.

On this week's broadcast of the 8/24/74 show, the "Tin Man" by America extra in the third hour has been replaced by a Casey extra for Olivia Newton-John's "If Not For You".

or You On this week's broadcast of the 8/24/74 show, the "Tin Man" by America extra in the third hour has been replaced by a Casey extra for Olivia Newton-John's "If Not For You". Yes! I was hoping they would do this since the "In Memoriam" they did last week was on the B show and hardly anybody played it. Added bonus: I much prefer "If Not For You" to the song I thought they would use (the earlier-in-1974 hit "If You Love Me Let Me Know")

Casey said, " . . . some of the locks of Mark Farner’s hair went for $50 a piece. Now I’d never pay that much for something there was such an abundance of. I’d give ya 50 dollars for a lock of Telly Savalas’ hair, but not Mark Farner’s."

If it's Thursday,it must be "AT40-The 70's" on WSQL-Looking forward to this week's presentation from 8/24/74 at 7:00 PM Eastern Time. Yes, as long as there isn't a school board meeting or a debate between dog catcher candidates! I checked the Brevard HS football schedule for this upcoming season and all games play on Friday this year so that shouldn't interfere with AT40-The 70s this year. But since it is an election year, we will undoubtably lose a night or two in October to local election coverage.

No shortage of #1s on the 8-24-74 show--12 current, past or present songs. This would continue well into 1975 when bookends by Elton John would break an incredible record from January to April of that year. This time of the year would also see massive drops from #1 as well as a record drop off the Top 40 when Steppin Out By Tony Orlando and Dawn would drop from 7 to 48 in just a couple of months.

You mean 'a couple of WEEKS' rather than 'months'. Ditto for several other top 10 records during that 'revolving door' '74-'75 time period.

For some reason I didn't notice it yesterday on WSQL, but just now on KLFM the one-verse-and-done 'hatchet job' edit on "I Love My Friend" was quite noticeable. Too bad, as it's a good tune and a 'lost 45'.

It enters here at #39, and judging from the intro Casey was apparently among the many who liked it from the start.

It was actually a little over two months, on 11-9-74 that Steppin Out dropped out of the Top 40 from position 7 to 48. That was the highest song to drop out at the time, then Even The Nights Are Better would break that record in 1982.

But no "In Memoriam" for this week's 1974 A show for Lamont Dozier who 2 weeks prior to 8/24/1974 spent his last AT40 week with "Fish Ain't Bitin'".
