We have next weekend's shows posted:
A: June 14, 1975:
Hour #1: "Rhinestone Cowboy" - Glen Campbell (#53) Hour #2: Casey and Larry Morgan talk about SSgt. Barry Sadler Hour #3: "Jive Talkin'" - The Bee Gees (#65)
As jdelach says at Pulse Music Board, "OK, Premiere is being weird again". The Sadler discussion segment apparently doesn't include an actual play of "The Ballad of the Green Berets", and otherwise I don't get the point or relevance, unless it builds on a story in the original show. It replaces Olivia Newton-John's "Please Mr. Please", used when this show was last aired in 2014.
B: June 18, 1977:
Hour #1: "You Made Me Believe In Magic" - Bay City Rollers (#42) Hour #2: "Telephone Line" - Electric Light Orchestra (#65) Hour #3: "Best Of My Love" - The Emotions (#70)
This one is a bit odd scheduling wise. It was also a B last year. And it was a standalone in 2007, 2008, 2009....and never since.

When used as optional extras such stories often have relevant songs added in that weren't in the original show, but that wasn't so a couple of weeks ago when Casey's story about "Waltzing Matilda" from 5/29/76 was used as an optional extra.

I bet either the last weekend of June 2022 will feature 6/30/1973 - last played in 2013, otherwise 6/30/1973 could be used for the July 4th., 2022 weekend with 6/24/1978 possibly on deck for the last weekend of June 2022.

Are there any other stations that are going to be running the 1979 show? This includes the three hour presentations (as I already listened to Hour 1 yesterday morning). WPAC should have show at the top of the hour. ice42.securenetsystems.net/WPACKOZI should replay the 3-hr version at 7pm eastern. 35.247.17.58/icicle-koziammp3-ibc4WPNC should be replaying the 1979 show Tuesday night/Wednesday morning at midnight eastern.

Last year, KOKZ and WTOJ opted for 1974 (I think there had been a few 1977 shows bunched together there) and there really weren't any other good options. But yes, very odd they would offer it as a 'B' show two years in a row when it hasn't been an 'A' since 2009.

KOKZ opts for the B show 10% of the time when the A show is after 1973. KOKZ goes with the top 40 songs from June 14th, 1975. KOZI,WIHG,WPAC & WXXM are likely to air June 18, 1977 this weekend. WQMV,WRTH & WVWP usually airs both shows.

"Ballad Of The Green Berets" was an "AT40 Archive" selection on the countdown from 6/6/81 that we heard two weeks ago.

Seems like the "whatever happened to" part of SSgt. Barry Sadler was moved from the regular part of the show to the optional part with Larry Morgan maybe adding what happened to Salder after this show aired, including shooting someone to death in 1978 and his own death in 1989.

The Sadler segment (at least in the 2014 airing) was only about 1:55 long, plus another 25 seconds of a teaser in the previous segment. There was a brief drop of 'Ballad' played at the beginning of the segment. It does indeed seem weird that they would excise those portions for the sake of making a new optional segment at the expense of the previous ONJ extra. Wouldn't that essentially shorten the whole hour by about 3 minutes?

Sad to hear Joel Whitburn passed away recently. I wonder if there will still be Billboard chart reference books in the years to come.

Sad to hear Joel Whitburn passed away recently. I wonder if there will still be Billboard chart reference books in the years to come. Yes. the company (Record Research) did not die with its founder. Spokesman Paul Haney put out a statement that says, in part: "I can assure you that myself and the rest of the Record Research team will do everything we can do keep the books coming. Joel's legacy will live on!"
