I can remember back in 2015 where we had both 7-21-79 AND 8-4-79 air in the same manner. KOKZ did not air 7-21-79 back in 2015, but did air 8-4-79 back then. This time around 8-4-79 is going to be much harder to come by.

Three totally 'lost' 45s coming up in a row right now on the '75 show on WSQL: "Mornin' Beautiful"; "Every Time You Touch Me (I Get High)"; and "I'm On Fire". Particularly like the third one, the first of two different songs with that title to reach the 40 in 1975. The other "I'm On fire" is 'lost' as well. Indeed it is! Pretty much the only songs from the Born In The USA album that radio plays anymore are the title track and "Dancing In The Dark" and "Glory Days". I know we were talking about a different "I'm On Fire" but some stations may be shying away from the song due to its subject matter and the way Bruce is singing it. Honestly the narrator sounds like a child molester to me.

But yeah "hey little girl is your daddy home?" sounds even creepier today than it did then.

But, wording aside, it's really one of the lesser entries in his canon; it may have been a hit due to career momentum, but doesn't hold up when compared to, say, "Born In the USA" or "Glory Days" (the singles that preceded and followed it), aided by the fact that it's over seemingly almost as soon as it starts, without really leaving much impression.

The big-budget video is what 'made' the song. And Bruce had actual lines in it! Which he handled quite well. Wonder if he ever will do a straight acting role in a film, especially now that he's done (or still doing, unsure what the current Covid restrictions are) a Broadway show.

I love “I’m on Fire”. I understood what the song was about even before I saw the video. I liked the video though. Bruce said they were trying to capture the Johnny Cash “boom chicka boom” sound. I think they did a good job of that. I agree that it’s too short. Would have liked a longer version. While we’re talking about Bruce… I also love 57 Channels (and Nothin' on)…

While I'm not a huge Springsteen fan, "I'm On Fire" was always one of my favorites of his. I was in 5th grade when it came out and even back then I knew Bruce wasn't singing about trying to put the moves on an actual child -- it was obvious that the terms "little girl" and "daddy" were metaphorical. BTW -- I will admit I like "57 Channels" too -- quirky song that didn't really fit with most of Springsteen's catalogue, but maybe that's what was appealing about it?

Honestly the narrator sounds like a child molester to me. There was a song back in 1964 that got often misinterpreted called "Little Children" by Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas. If you listen to it today, it sounds just as creepy as "I'm On Fire" by Bruce Springsteen. Ironically, Bruce Springsteen's use of "little girl" can be heard back in 1981 when he resurrected the career of Gary US Bonds with "This Little Girl".

There was a song back in 1964 that got often misinterpreted called "Little Children" by Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas. I am pretty sure that most people recognize that the guy singing the song wants to be alone with his girlfriend--and is asking her younger siblings to please let them have some privacy.

"Uneasy Rider" is one of the featured hits from 8/11/73-No doubt it will feature the obligatory edits by Premiere.

Can't play too short of an edit IMO. For the record, my other 'yech!' song on this week's chart is "Playground In My Mind".

Well that's a bummer. Listening to KLFM who is playing 1973 and before song # 32 'checked in' so to speak, suddenly a horse with no name came on already in progress and then they skipped to commercial and started again at #30 so lost some songs there. Haven't seen that station mess up before whenever I've caught it on their channel.
