Wouldn't you typically expect a B show offering for this one? This is the last 3 hour show. For the 70s, the only later 70s shows that get paired with a B are the 4 hour shows. (It's only the earlier 70s shows that get paired with a B due to music selection.)

These days, with music so readily available online, it is rare for me to hear a song on an AT40 show that I have not heard at all since the original time period of said show. This morning, listening to the first hour of the 9/18/71 countdown on KQAK, Bend OR, it has just happened not once, but twice, one song after the other: First was "I Ain't Got Time Anymore" by The Glass Bottle, immediately followed by "The Love We Had (Stays On My Mind)" by The Dells. That's why I love hearing these old AT40s, especially the first hours!

I don't know what song was played since Premiere has been known to correct mistakes of this nature but the Glass Bottle originally played was "The First Time", which is the flip side. Not sure it would change what you posted however.

Not sure it would change what you posted however. The A side was played in Premiere's 9/18/71 broadcast, while the B was played originally (presumably by mistake). The following week Casey again played "The First Time"; on 10/2/71, the record's last week in the top 40, he finally played the A side.

So Premiere did correct that mistake and it was a mistake because Casey never announced it as "The First Time" in either week that it was played. It looks like Premiere is going to correct mistakes of this nature every time they occur. If they play the 12/16/72 show this year, they will have another opportunity to correct such a mistake when the wrong Rod Stewart song was played. Not sure they would correct the mistake made for several weeks in 1977 when the wrong Marvin Gaye song was played since it was simply part 2 instead of part 1. But anyone that has Pete's book to know when mistakes were made and has been hearing all the Premiere shows over the last year or two can give us a rundown of what Premiere has been doing in this regard.

Not sure it would change what you posted however. It was definitely "I Ain't Got Time Anymore" that Premiere played. The song did get local airplay back in '71 (on 990 KTKT, at least). I just had not heard it since. Do not have it on CD. Funny thing is, I was a religious AT40 listener back in September of '71 (on 1330 KHYT) but I do NOT remember them mistakenly playing the 'B' side, which they apparently did for two of the three weeks the song was in the 40. Guess I missed at least the beginning of those two shows back then.

I doubt they can correct the Rod Stewart mistake because "Angel" has never been played on the show.

When do you think they will do 1973 again?

In a rather odd twist, when SXM aired this show last year, the mistake was left in. For Premiere to fix the mistake, they had to make a somewhat sloppy edit. In this case, for this song, SXM is where you could hear the show as it originally aired.

Casey DID step on the vocal of the wrong song before I inserted the correct one, so the last syllable of bottle was a bit lower in volume than the first, but it WAS there.

Fair enough, I just went and listened to the two side by side. Yes, the original show does drop "bottle" a bit, but more what I was referring to was there is practically no space between Casey's "bottle" and their "Got no time to.....". So when I heard it this morning, it sounded more jarring than it is. Almost as if Casey committed the radio sin of speaking over the lyric. But then again, at that point in the history of the countdown, Casey did sometimes squeeze his words in. One of my favorite examples is in the debut show and his intro to "Silver Bird". He gets everything out just before he sounds like hes going to run out of breath.
