KOOL 94.5 finally has the playlist posted... all optional extras were guessed but no one guessed all three: Hour #1: "Theme From Jaws" by John Williams Hour #2: "I'm Sorry" by John Denver Hour #3: "SOS" by ABBA Of note is the fact that this week's optional extras have new intros from Larry Morgan. Lately on the 1970s countdowns the optional extra intros have most often either been replayed from earlier broadcasts or consisted of Casey's lines from old shows pieced together into "new" introductions. Thus far, Premiere has only used the "artificially created Casey-voiced intros" for shows from 1970-73. All shows rebroadcast by Premiere to date from 1974 or later have had optional extras with Larry-voiced intros (aside from optional extras that were extras in the original broadcast of that week's show).

To countdownmike, is there any reason why WODC took out the 2nd optional extra: "Surfin' USA"?

WODC doesn't take out optional extras. They're there on the log, but if the commercial load puts them past the end of the hour, the system rolls over it to start the top of the next hour. Seems many weeks all the optional pieces have played, at least when I've heard the shows. Again, I don't sweat those as long as our listeners hear #40-1.

Wow is "Having My Baby" a terrible song. Does anyone else besides me think it ranks among the worst #1 songs ever?

I mentioned this in another thread. I know it was detested by a certain political sect back in 74, but that's got nothing to do with the fact it's an awful, awful song.

It was OK for its time. It was the era of new permissiveness and such. At first I thought it was done specifically to tick off the "establishment." I had considered it a novelty. Listening to the lyrics today...wow! But the melody and the singing are great! I love Coates' voice. Oh yes, and I bought the single because it was cool to go from having a record called "I Want To Hold Your Hand" to grow up buying "(You're) Having My Baby." At least I found out that you have to do more than hold hands to have a baby.
