For purely selfish reasons, I'm hoping they do NOT air a 1979 show the first weekend of August, since I will be out of town and not able to listen except to the Tuesday Australia broadcasts, which probably don't play Hour 1. I'm all for 1979 for the SECOND weekend of August!

Wouldn't we be more due for either a 1970 or 1971 show over the next two weeks? The former hasn't been possible as yet this year, while the latter hasn't been played for a number of weeks now. We just had two back-to-back 1979 offering in early July. Why would we get another one just four weeks later?

What were 'the obvious reasons' that we're not getting a 1984 show this month?

But I would not call 1974 an early 70s show either. It's mid 70s IMO. But a real early 70s show may get a late 70s show as an alternate although probably not an unplayed show so 1979 is out until later in August as an alternate. This is confusing isn't it....lol

What were 'the obvious reasons' that we're not getting a 1984 show this month? Everything from July 1984 either has been played during the last two years or was guest hosted. August 18 and 25, 1984 are the next shows from that year that Premiere can play but hasn't yet. Since we haven't heard 1984 since May, it should be coming in August.

What were 'the obvious reasons' that we're not getting a 1984 show this month? There are 3 possible July 1984 shows that Premiere could air (7/14/84 is a Charlie Van Dyke show), and they aired ALL of them over the last two years (7/7/84 and 7/21/84 were both aired in 2010--don't ask me why in the world they did that--and 7/28/84 was aired last year). So far Premiere hasn't aired an 80's show that was played in the previous two years since 2009. (sorry mkarns--posted this before I saw you already answered, but you said exactly what I meant)

1987 would make good sense for a year end show, whether played in its entirety over two weeks (my preference) or split with another year. Since the last two year-end shows were played in their entirety, I have a feeling this year they'll go with two Top 50 shows (probably the Top 50 of 1987 and a repeat of the Top 50 of 1980 show).

We just had two back-to-back 1979 offering in early July. Why would we get another one just four weeks later? As I said earlier, the 7/14/79 show seemed to be an optional throw-in at the last minute, and the Disco show doesn't count as a '79 show since it's a special (that has been discussed before--Premiere doesn't seem to count the special shows against the year in which they were originally played). Most stations ended up playing the 7/15/72 show, which seemed to be the primary show for the weekend of 7/14/12. Maybe that August '79 show will wait until the 8/25/79 show on the last weekend in August? Remember, I am going by a post from Mr. Battistini (from July 3rd) where it was suggested that the next regular 1979 show would be aired in August. As far as a 1970 show, 8/1/70 was aired by Premiere last year, and 8/8/70 was played in 2010, so it would surprise me if we got either of those. I would put my money on getting one the last 3 August 1970 shows (8/15, 8/22, or 8/29/70). We are certainly due for a 1971 show soon.

Great detailed reply, wahoo. Thanks much!
So how about 8/2/1975 for next week, the weekend of 8/3-5? It's never been aired as far as I can tell during this series.
Then, for the w/e 8/10-12, we get our August 1979 show, from 8/11/79.
After that, it's 8/21/71 for w/e 8/17-19, followed by either 8/22 or 8/29 from 1970 for w/e 8/24-26.
Sounds like a good-sounding August to me!

Sure...I'm not sure I know much, especially considering how lousy my average of picking 70's shows has been. Your guesses for August seem pretty good--I wonder if they would play '70 and '71 in back to back weeks. I believe that has happened before though--in Oct. 2010 maybe?

Yes, that's happened three times, in Nov. 2008, Nov. 2009, and Oct. 2010. In September and October 2010 Premiere went on a mini-binge of the early 1970s, playing 1971, 1972, 1971, and 1970 consecutively. Note that there was only one week between 1971 countdowns in September and October 2010; Premiere did the same thing a few months earlier with July 1984. And after that concentration there was no 1971 or 1972 until February 2011. (This was the time when they began running the abbreviated four-hour shows, allowing for more later 1970s.)

Yeah--good question as to whether they stick with the full top 100 for one show. I kind of hope they do--I would prefer full shows to partials. Top 50 of 1980 was aired back in 2008, right (and that year it was only one top 50 special)? I wonder if it would be '81 and '87 if they only do the top 50s. It would seem that Premiere will need to do at least 2 weeks of specials, since they are really getting short on eligible January shows...

Sounds like a good-sounding August to me! I fully agree! As I stated in another thread, my predictions for August include: August 4: 1985 August 11: 1981 August 18: 1987 August 25: 1984 Or August 18 may air 1984, and 1987 may end up airing on August 25.

Well we are into August, and dangit all if SXM didn't choose to play a '77 show the first week that I decided not to guess it. Again, a number of possible shows this week for the 80's series, but...I gotta believe that we will get '84 and '87 in the next two weeks, just depends on which order. For the 70's series, I'm putting my money on an early 70's show but the big question is: when does Premiere roll out the first 1970 show? I'm guessing sometime in August, but not next week. SXM on the other hand, can't seem to get enough of 1970 shows. And with that, here goes for the weekend of August 11th:
80's - 8/8/87 70's - 8/14/71 SXM - 8/8/70
