Hearing Alive And Kicking (man did Casey ever like that one!) this past week made me wonder - in the 70s and 80s - how many songs have been in the Top 40 that had the exact same name as an act that made the Top 40 during the 70s and 80s? I though you guys with spreadsheets might be able to figure it out. Alive And Kicking War (song and act arguably in same countdown!) Free Heatwave (arguable) Shannon Fanny

Why is Heatwave arguable. Taste of Honey is arguable because the song was in the 60s. Can add one to this list.....ABC

OMG you're right - A Taste Of Honey shouldn't be there - DOH!
Heatwave is arguable, maybe not even arguable, because the song is Heat Wave. At least I believe that's what the label said in 1975.

"Fancy" was the name of a song Bobbie Gentry reached the top 40 with in early 1970, before AT40 premiered; it was also the name of a group that hit the top 40 twice in 1974 (their cover of "Wild Thing" is in this weekend's Premiere show.)
Chicago, and the song and the band at the same time no less, in summer 1971.
Kiss
Poison
Arguable: "The Reflex" and Re-Flex
Do singular/plural names count? (i.e. "Afternoon Delight/the Afternoon Delights; "Emotion"/the Emotions)

How bout songs with same title & group name. Casey once answered listener question on show about such topic. "Yellow Balloon" by band of same name peaked at #25 in April '67 (their drummer was Don Grady of "My 3 Sons" fame). Wasn't during AT40 years but mentioned just the same. Living in a Box of course did same in '87 peaking at #17. Both bands were one hit wonders of the first order! Kool & the Gang's first single in '69 was self titled but fell short peaking at #59.

I played them/that song a few months ago on my countdown. Even told a story about Don being on My Three Sons!

How about Talk Talk by Talk Talk and as was mentioned Living In A Box by Living In A Box. Also, what about In A Big Country by Big Country?

How about Talk Talk by Talk Talk and as was mentioned Living In A Box by Living In A Box. Also, what about In A Big Country by Big Country? "Talk Talk" by band of same name only charted at #75 in '82 so like Kool & the Gang fell short of AT40 glory. "It's My Life" is a way coo-el song by band! In regard to Big Country falls short because of "In a" in title. Same would apply to "My Name is Prince" because of the "My Name Is" part of title. I stopped listening to AT40 by then in protest over Billboard Hot 100 not being used anymore so don't know if made Shadoe countdown or Casey's Top 40 or not!!!

Celebration (the Mike Love group and the Kool and the Gang song)
Does Time count (the group The Time and the Alan Parsons Project song)?

Do singular/plural names count? (i.e. "Afternoon Delight/the Afternoon Delights; "Emotion"/the Emotions) If so, you could include Heart and Marty Balin's "Hearts".
