The show I have been waiting for forever AND i screwed up my taping and missed the 1st hour. Reason I ask for WQSR is the quality is superior to the other stations. I would be ever so greatful for any help.

Sorry 80sfreak but I would have gone with KEGK....their jetcast player is pretty decent. Hope you have success tonight.

I have been capturing shows digitally for a few years, cut out all commercials to a perfect mp3 of show. I assume everyone is doing that, or are some of you "taping" (or just listening)? It would we cool to discuss recording/edit tricks, I have learned a ton in the last few years.

For recording, I'm using Replay AV.

I don't do streams. They just arn't as good as Over-The-Air broadcasts for me. I usually record WINC, off-air, Saturday mornings. But if I miss something, I'll record WQSR, off-air, sunday nites. Oh an I still record onto cassette tapes thru my stereo. Flawless sound, unless I'm recording WQSR which sometimes sounds good, sometimes not, depends on how good the signal comes in.

shadter, if you are recording the show each week on cassettes, how do you manage all the cassettes that you accumulate? I can get the signal for WINC and WQSR OK in the car but not my tuner at home since I'm not using an external antenna. I prefer to record the stream with the computer using Replay AV8 or Replay Media Catcher. Using the PC is a real god send because you can record for hours unattended. The recordings doesn't take up any room in the house and you can access the files with a single click of the mouse. I have accumulated over 200 shows so far. I'm collecting all the shows I can that are being offered because who knows how long the rebroadcasts will last. Thanks to Premier for providing them for free. Before them it was hard to get a hold of these old shows. For editing out the commercials from recordings, I use mp3DirectCut from www.mpesch3.dePros: 1) Freeware 2) It displays a waveform for the mp3 you're editing so you can visually see what you're cutting out. 3) It has previews of cuts & edit points 4) Fast save of changes since it doesn't recode the mp3 Cons: 1) Interface take some practice to get used to

Does anyone use Audcity? I have been using it for a while now - freeware program that records, edits, etc. Does a real nice job for me. I can save as .wav, .mp3, .aac, and a few others...
Shadster, I am impressed that you still record off-air with cassettes - just like in the old days when AT40 was in it's original run...

I 'wish' I could record off the radio here on the Cape, but the only station that carries AT 40 that's nearby is WODS - Boston - but the signal is just not strong enough to record.
Thus, I rely heavily on internet streaming audio......

Its generally 2 cassettes per show (120min) an they go in a box in the closet, someday perhaps I'll listen to them, re-record/edit them. I certainly don't wake up to listen to the show (6am AcK!), just set the timer to start the recording. Used to be able to do that for the whole show but the left deck in my dual auto-reverse recording decks stopped working, so now I can only use 1 deck (half the show). Set my alarm for 8am to go an change tapes an back to bed. Plus I dont record every show, some shows I already have copies of and since I didnt start listening to radio till '84, I don't record any early 80s shows.
I do have audacity and use it for other things. Back when XM had AT40 I would record those shows to my media player (.wav) straight out of the Dish Network receiver, an use audacity to edit it into 3 files for cd burning.
I prefer the 'processing' you get from over-the-air. You can't get that from streams. Allthough I do like the sound of the WAMS stream.

I do - the only thing I don't like is the huge file sizes that result, even once I convert the file into a .wav. I prefer recording on-air with it to the possibility of software that does off-air recording anyway; I don't trust my laptop enough to pull that off. Here's my question: What would I use to edit things like commercials out of the recording once I've converted the project to a .wav? I used to keep the project file until waiting for a time when I could further explore Audacity to figure out how to do it with that, but ultimately I grew impatient and deleted them all, so now all I have are the .wav files.

The best sound I get is via FM and recorded on minidisc starndard play 80 minutes.
If you want to have a 4 hour show you have to go to minidisc LP4 and those 80 minutes are 80x4 minutes, 5 hours and 20 minutes. If the FM radio has an optical audio output, you can get a digital recording via minidisc.
Well, that is what I use for satellite radio. There is no a FM station taking retro AT40, but in my home town American Forces Network can be heard on 102.5 FM and you can hear Ryan on terrestrial FM and make a decent recording.
I used to live ( and was happy) without streaming radio until my retro AT40 station left satellite, now I have no more option that internet and make streaming recording via Screamer Radio or Tapin Radio . I normally dont scope so much from the show, the intro and outro and the news if they are easy to scope.
If I get an old show, recorded in real time long time ago, I dont scope anything. That is part of the history.

I record off WQSR using Replav A/V. The quality is awesome. I edit out all comercials and basically get a 3h 20 minute show from it.
I tried other stations and although the quality is good, its not as crisp and stereo sound like WQSR sends out.

I record off of a few different sources depending on what time I am able to record, barring problems of course.
As for editing, I use Sony Soundforge for everything I have to edit, from online recordings of Casey to my shows I record.

After recording AT 40 using Replay AV8, I use WavePad Audio Editor to edit the show. I'm using WavePad v 4.52. Their website is: www.nch.com.au/wavepadVersion 4.52 is an older version of WavePad. I tried their upgraded, later version but utimately uninstalled the new version and went back to version 4.52.
