I think what Dua Lipa is doing right now with "Levitating" has to rank up there. She will probably hit number one in like week 35 or 36 of the chart run after initialing peaking at #4 in January, dropping all the way to #35 before making a historic, rapid u turn right back up the chart.

How about Weezer having exactly 3 top 40 hits, all landing in three different decades. Not something that an artist would necessarily aim for but impressive nonetheless.

The Supremes with their Number 1's in this order: 3, 3, 2, 2, 1, 1. Now let me explain--1964, 3; 1965, 3; 1966, 2; 1967 2; 1968, 1; 1969 1 for a total of the twelve as the most from an American group.

Just today, Ryan mentioned that The Beach Boys had 22 years between number one hits. Unlikely that will be broken anytime soon. Although Elton John did break that record on his hot AC show.

Just my opinion, but I think the Beatles dominance of the charts in early 1964, and for the Casey AT40 era, the Gibbs' dominance of the Top 10 in early 1978 are #1 and #2 and nothing else comes close.

Correct on AT40 2.0. It did hit #1 on Dees (I think it was on 5/1/1999, interrupting the run of "Every Morning"), but we all know that chart had to be fudged.

To be fair, like The Beach Boys did before her with "Kokomo" in 1988, Cher hit #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart for March 13th, 1999, that makes it about 25 years. Fun fact "Believe" contains uncredited samples of "Prologue" & "Epilogue" synths by Electric Light Orchestra from their 1981 album Time before she starts singing!

Regarding the ELO question, it was a tough one because it is a chart that did not get a lot of attention like the more common charts of pop, country, soul, ac, or even disco during that era. There was a weekly chart called Top Boxoffice (perhaps there still is, but I stopped reading Billboard decades ago). I don't recall how many times ELO was ranked at #1 during their highly successful tour in 1978, but if you want to see ELO listed at #1 on a Billboard chart, check out the Billboard magazine date for 9/9/78 in google books on the 6,000 to 20,000 arena chart for week ending 8/27/78. For those who like Billboard controversy, ELO is listed at #1 for ticket sales of 26,952 but in the Boxoffice chart for venues seating not more than 20000. So one might ask: How do you sell 26,952 tickets in an arena of 20,000 or less? Should the Commodores/LTD at #2 cry foul? Bigger than the RSO scandal on the pop chart in 1978? To answer an over eight year old question, the info trekkielo posted after this post appears to show two dates for the ELO concerts (August 23 and 24), so perhaps the ticket sales were cumulative?

I guess all of us here know that all three singles from Bee Gee's "Spirits Having Flown" album hit No.1. But it's amazing that all three of them were replaced at No.1 by the songs they replaced (i.e. they produced a yo-yo number one): Le Freak, I Will Survive, and Hot Stuff.

This was recntly on Facebook. Was really surprised that more than one reply couldn't figure out what was meant by a 'yo-yo' #1.

Ryan Seacrest mentioned this recently: Miley Cyrus has had exactly 3 #1 hits and all 3 have landed in different decades:
2009 - Party In The USA 2013 - Wrecking Ball 2023 - Flowers
I’m assuming she’s the only act to have done this.

"Flowers" is # 2 on this week's Mediabase AC chart.

I always found it interesting that the Carpenters, who had a string of Top 10 hits from 1970 to 1973, couldn't get past #11 in 1974.
