Olivia extended her record by one more year with Soul Kiss in 1985. She still had the record as of 2000.

I posted this in another thread, but I wanted others opinions and decided to make its own thread... In your opinion, what is the greatest chart feat of all time. It could be length of time on the charts, weeks at number one. Amount of chart hits, Amount of number ones. CCR's 5 hits at number 2 but none at number one, or mine.... 4-4-64: The Beatles hold the top 5 positions, breaking the record of 4 set the previous weeks by themselves. Its a chart feat that I'm betting will NOT be broken... EVER! Its held for almost 50 years! I have to agree with the Beatles' feat. My second choice would be Madonna having at least one Top 40 hit every year from 1983 to 2006. Although that's R&R charts, and at least two of those years (2004 and 2006) were obtainted by carry-over hits.

Casey once answered a question about this on AT40. He mentioned the Beatles Top 5 feat as well as Chubby Checker hitting #1 twice with "The Twist".

When it comes to having top 40 hits in consecutive years, Elton John has the record hands down. By my calculations, he had 28 straight years...1970-97 if you say 1 song cannot count for 2 years.

This is subjective, but considering the level of competition at the time, I think the Gibbs' run as performers and writers from June 1977 through June 1979 is mind boggling.
There was no Ed Sullivan moment and no mania to capitalize (no pun intended) upon. There were no videos that anyone cared about. It was just a couple of movies and at least fifteen incredibly good pop songs - all in only two years.

All four former Beatles hitting the Top 40 at the same time 4 years after they broke up!

The chart week of May 13, 1972:
That was when the top 8 songs on the pop chart were all by black artists (and all appeared on the Soul Singles chart)
Similarly, the weeks of November 1 & November 8, 1980: all the songs in the pop top 10 (except the #1) were making an appearance on the R&B chart.

Elton John's consecutive years of hitting the top 40 AGREE! Elton's streak of having at least one song in top 40 from '70-'99 is most amazing! Not Madonna, Mariah, McCartney, Michael, Diana or even Elvis can top that!!!

In fact, in my AT40 firsts thread, I noted when the top 5 songs were all soul songs.

Michael Jackson having 5 #1 singles from an album --"Bad." Even more impressive is that Katy Perry managed to do that on AT40/Mediabase with six singles from "Teenage Dream." In a time when songs are spending more weeks at #1, it's even more difficult to get a #1 hit.

Electric Light Orchestra, the band/group who has more American Top 40 hits on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart with 20 without a #1 hit single!

Electric Light Orchestra, the band/group who has more American Top 40 hits on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart with 20 without a #1 hit single! If you include the Top 40 charts from the 1960s, James Brown had 44 Top 40 hits without hitting #1. He had a total of 93 Hot 100 hits without hitting #1. I agree, Elton's longevity on the singles chart would be the most amazing feat IMHO.
