AT 40 #1 of the '70s ( Part 1 to 6 ) I assume Premiere will baptize part 7 to 10 : AT 40 #1 of the '80s part 1 to part 3 when the shows will be aired in 2016 since they used to name part 1 to 4 ( and probably 5 to 7 ) AT 40 of the '70s ? You're correct. When Premiere does issues the #1's from the 80's they will begin with part 1. For keeping track of them in my production world, I just continued the numbering scheme. I had always envisioned these as being played in a marathon (like I did with WTOJ this weekend). I'm a big fan of special weekend programming ... something which has become a dying art in the age of radio consolidation. 2 marathon specials jump right to mind: 1) The History of Rock n' Roll produced by Drake/Chenault 2) The Evolution of Rock produced by CHUM in Toronto (the better of the 2 in my book) Each were upwards of 60 hours in length and made great holiday weekend programming. The industry just can't be bothered to produce gems like these any longer.

Ken- I wish guys like you (and me) were in charge of the radio world... Cue the music for "If I Were King of the Forrest!" At least my GM/owner allows me to do what I can on the weekends for special programming. Actually, my consultant is big on special weekend programming, too ... hence Casey's #1's.

Ken-I was wondering. Did Casey announced the number 1 songs of the 80s on American Top 10? Do you have access to the TV show?

That was a great job of editing all that together. I hope to catch some of the 80's tomorrow. It's a shame the show can't be made all the we to the end of the 80's. Unless you could get audio from America's Top 10 because Casey hosted it through the 80's & it was still based on Billboard's Hot 100 but the quick edit of him announcing the #1 song would probably not be worth the time. Another option for 1989 would be using Casey's Top 40 but that would mean the pain of editing it either American Top 40 or AT40 every time he said Casey's Top 40 not to mention it's probably still owned by Westwood One.

So, um.... since the 4th of July seems to be a big spot for special programming.... could we be looking at a replay? ;-) I actually like the 'padding' (if you want to call it that) of Part 6. Like I've mentioned previously, I heard it these shows last year twice-over when Ken aired the show (before WTOJ streamed), and I think it wasn't until the second listen-through that I could appreciate that the last couple parts (5 and 6) captured the essence of an AT40 contemporary to the years that it was replicating. Just as much as the bumpers/logos/jingles/etc. were matching the years and songs that were encompassed as the show moved through the 1970s, the inclusions of extras and special features also expanded, especially in those last two years of the 70's when they went to 4 hour shows. THAT is the attention to detail that I appreciate in these specials. Anyone could have just spliced together the individual AT40 Archives features of the 70's and called it a day... but all of the Premiere Extras? You're looking at just about every major #2 hit of the 70's, too. Giving 'Baker Street' it's due as the longest #2 of the decade (FWIW... wait until (tomorrow) when the series gets to late 1981/2 for another similar tribute). Plucking 'questions' for Casey to answer from 'prolific fans'/listeners... Every intro, every familiar artist story, every mention of chart history and records being set... THIS is as much a 'greatest hits' of AT40 history as much as it is a rundown of every song that hits #1. The only thing that could have been considered 'missing' was a certain Neil Diamond LDD. (LOL maybe Part 9 could compensate with a certain LDD to a dearly departed canine...?) One last, minor editing gripe... is there a little bit of 'Rock With You' bleeding into the beginning of 'Don't Stop Til You Get Enough'? It's not as egregious a blip as the 'Baby Come Back' mishap I passed along to Ken last year, but I was in the car listening, and I coulda swore I heard...

I emailed Bill Shannon of WWOW today and he said they will air the "#1 HITS OF THE 1970S PART 4" special on Memorial Day at 6:00am EDT and again at 2:00pm EDT. Anyone know of any other stations playing Part 4 today?

Ken-I was wondering. Did Casey announced the number 1 songs of the 80s on American Top 10? Do you have access to the TV show? I don't have access to any of the AT10 shows. The microphone setup would probably be very different from the AT40 studios and AT40 and AT10 most likely wouldn't match in tone, making edits nearly impossible. That being said, it wouldn't at least be worth a listen.

I would think the difference in Casey's voice from the 80s to the 2000's AT10 shows would be far too noticeable to make it work.

It's a shame Casey's intros will finish with steve winwood's roll with it,but i have a feeling a montage of the rest of the number ones of the 80s will be compiled (with a Larry morgan intro )

Well, enjoy an exclusive Part 3 of the 80's #1's. I just realized that hour 2 is WAY too long! How that slipped by me, I'm not sure, but it's about 12 minutes too long. Too late to fix it now for today's airing. Next time around, it will be a little different and the last song WON'T be Madonna Live to Tell. That song, along with Greatest Love of All and West End Girls will be the beginning of Part 4. Consider this a sneek-peek! HA HA!
