All I can say listening is that I have such admiration for the editing skills of Ken Martin. I can't imagine how tedious and time consuming it is to go through these shows and then put all of this together. And it sounds so seamless. And I know you are essentially creating these show opens and closes and each word comes from a different source at times. Bravo and kudos. These shows sound so good.

Numbers for internet listening for WTOJ and Casey's #1's Part 1-3 on Saturday are in, and it's a NEW record. The number of listeners was nearly 10x's normal.
Biggest US cities to listen?
10. Boston 9. Dallas 8. Green Bay 7. Joplin-Pittsburg 6. San Francisco 5. Minneapolis 4. Providence 3. New York City 2. Los Angeles 1. Burlington-Plattsburg, NY (upstate NY ... not even close to Watertown)
#1 international country to listen? Japan ... nearly equal to US listenership!
That's the power of AT40! Thank you Casey and anyone who had a hand in making AT40 the countdown of the century!

Hey Ken. Great assembly of the #1's of the 1970's BUT you could've done away with that Beatles extra in Part 6 since it has nothing to do with the 1970's.

The extras for Part 6 were: Short People - Randy Newman YMCA - Village People Dim All the Light - Donna Summer After the Love Has Gone - Earth, Wind and Fire Are you referring to the CCR extra?

I think the montage of all #1 of the decade at the end of part 6 is much too long. Why not play a montage of the #1 single of each year ( year end chart )?

Part 6 included in-show extras that appeared to be answers to question letters. (I don't remember what they preceded.)
The first one was "Looking Out My Back Door" by Creedence Clearwater Revival. The second one was "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty. The third one was "Can't Buy Me Love" by the Beatles.
The first two was #2 singles of the 1970s so I thought they were appropriate to feature. The third was about self-replacement at #1. This had nothing to do with the 1970s so there was no reason to include it.

I thought you were talking about the extras voiced by Larry. To make the show fit to a full 4 hours, I needed to put another song in there. Using all of the available stories I had, I went with that one. In my book, you can never go wrong with a Beatles song. If you can think of another story, I'd be open to open to swapping it out before Premiere makes part 6 available on Labor Day.

I remember that there was a show call "The History of Rock n Rock" that was produced by Bill Drake and ran on KHJ back in the day. It was also syndicated to many stations around the world. That show had a montage that run a full hour and featured all the number 1 songs from 1955 to the early 80's. That hour was one of the most popular of the entire program, so I felt 22 minutes for all the #1's of the 70's was OK. The other reason, the show wouldn't have been a full 4 hours without it. It's also there for timing reasons. That's also why Casey had 3 extras contained within the show (that is, not voiced by Larry). Ken

Interesting info about Japan. I remember several years ago they held a classic AT40 convention...a rare instance anywhere in the world.

Actually I can think of two better options to replace that Beatles extra. One could be a story related to "Someday We'll Be Together" by Diana Ross & the Supremes, since it was the #1 song on New Years Day 1970, and it was the group's twelfth and final #1 hit. The other could be about the legacy of Elvis Presley since he died in 1977. "My Way" would be the most appropriate song to play since it was his first posthumous hit & many listeners view it as a swan song. All n all, it was a great 24 hour special.

I'd have to argue about the Supremes record. Billboard charts are for the "week ending" which would have made the Supremes song the LAST #1 of the 60's and not the first of the 70's. The Elvis tribute would be a nice touch. That would probably have made more sense in Part 5 since that's where it fell. That would require going back and changing not only part 5, but all the subsequent segments ... a daunting task to say the least.
