WTOJ / Ken Martin comes through AGAIN ~ from Facebook: Memorial Day weekend! It's a Magic 103.1 Number 1's weekend! Featuring a special marathon edition of American Top 40. Listen as Casey plays back all the number one songs from 1970 through 1986 in chronological order! Using thousands of hours of AT40, Magic 103.1 has weaved together a special with the King of the Countdown like you've never heard before. It's a 9 part American Top 40 special and it starts Saturday at 6 AM. Saturday : 6 AM - Part 1 (1970-1972) 10 AM - Part 2 (1972-1974) 2 PM - Part 3 (1974-1975) Sunday: 6 AM - Part 4 (1975-1976) 10 AM - Part 5 (1976-1978) 2 PM - Part 6 (1978-1979) Monday: 6 AM - Part 7 (1980-1982) 10 AM - Part 8 (1982-1984) 2 PM - Part 9 (1984-1986) Times are approximate ---------------------------------------- Ken played parts 1-7 last year when Casey passed (Disclosure... I already have a good idea what the extras are, even though most were still voice-over'd by Ken himself). Nice to know that another couple parts are completed! (Just make sure there's no more funny 'song bleeds' during 'Baby Come Back' on the masters, Ken! ;-) ) Thanks to you Michael, the song bleed has been fixed. The extras for the first 7 parts will now be voiced by Larry. I haven't written or even considered what songs to play for extras during parts 8 and 9 and I doubt I could get Larry to voice them in time. I'm actually still working on Part 9. Just the last segment of hour 4 remains. That should end with Madonna "Live To Tell."

Thanks Ken.
By the way, who's going to air the Triathlon of Rock & Roll special?

Let me narrow it down: all 4 singers in the optional segments had #1 hits (in R&R at least) in the 80s and 90s. And one of them is a medley of his or her Top 40 hits. Er...unfortunately, you messed up the clue here. One of the four never saw the #1 spot in R&R after 1983. He did come close once after that, but even there it was before 1990. This same song did reach the top on AT40 - the clue only holds true if we not only use Billboard for it, but also their chart years as well. Those were starting in December by this time... Since I've said too much already, I'll go ahead and reveal what the four are. I will say though that the two clues combined did conjure up a certain someone in mind who came into this world around my own neck of the woods...lo and behold, I was right. The four Triathlon extras are: Billy Joel - We Didn't Start the Fire (why yes, that troublesome clue song!) Phil Collins - Another Day in Paradise Prince - Batdance Medley of Madonna Somehow it seems VERY like Premiere to go all 1989 on us with the individual song extra choices. kenmartin, I've been told what the 70s #1 extras will be as well. Should I go ahead and post those now too, or would you like the honors? (Or even, should these be kept as a surprise? )

People can guess what they're gonna be for Part 4 ... and they can actually guess what all 9 parts will be since I'm gonna air all of them this weekend.

Will there eventually be a part 10, covering 1986-88 (up to Casey's departure from AT40?) I'm guessing that Premiere will start offering the 80s #1s to affilates once the 70s series is completed.

Eventually, yes, part 10 will be coming. I just put the finishing touches on Part 9 last night. The 80's will be made available as specials beginning in 2016.

Should I go ahead and post those now too, or would you like the honors? (Or even, should these be kept as a surprise? ) What an odd set of extras. Doesn't Premiere usually choose songs/artists that just missed the cut when playing a special? One such song would have been "Let My Love Open the Door". In fact, I don't think it should have missed the cut. Meaning just like the Newcomers of the 80s special aired a few weeks earlier originally where Sheena Easton was mistakenly left out, this time it is Pete Townsend. Look at the numbers for him versus Jimmy Page at #40 and he has about twice as many top 40 hits and the same number of top 10s...which includes their hits with the groups they were in. As it is though, we get "Whole Lotta Love" on AT40 for only the second time(1976). It is the first song played and if you are waiting for something else from the 70s after that, don't hold your breath because there are none. Not sure why this show is so 80s dominated.

Er...unfortunately, you messed up the clue here. My apologies. That's what I get for relying on my memory. I had "The River of Dreams" taped off of Casey's AC show when it was #1 in 1993. But of course it didn't reach #1 on the pop chart.

For those that missed the Top 40 Hits of the Beatles special from 1981 (or want to hear it again), WGHN will be airing it on Monday after the Indy 500.

AT 40 #1 of the '70s ( Part 1 to 6 )
I assume Premiere will baptize part 7 to 10 : AT 40 #1 of the '80s part 1 to part 3 when the shows will be aired in 2016 since they used to name part 1 to 4 ( and probably 5 to 7 ) AT 40 of the '70s ?
