For 1998 - does Rick play this version of "My Way"? www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkDXKNV8hgAAT40 only ever played that version, which I'd love to know why. It feels too much like a "clean" version for a song that didn't really need one, IMO. For 1993 - it's a rare week where as many as the Top 8 are all holding, and that's thanks to the #1 song going for a then-record-tying 9 weeks up there. That, and in that Top 8, only #4 and #5 aren't peaking - and neither of them get to #1 either! It'd be Janet's other song in the countdown to knock her off, the one that only debuts just this week.

Really enjoyed the 1998 show. Is anyone else deceased besides Aaliyah and Attrell Cordes?

When he got to the droppieces of #1s for those turning 37 (1956), 27 (1966), and 17 (1976) this weekend, he was a week off for the latter two: 10/8/66 would have had "Cherish" by The Association and 10/9/76 would have had "A Fifth of Beethoven" by Walter Murphy - instead, the droppieces were "Reach Out I'll Be There" by The Four Tops and his own "Disco Duck"; I'm guessing the latter is why he was a week off. (For 1976, when going by R&R, that should have instead been Chicago's "If You Leave Me Now".)

^^A week off is better than a year off, as Rick once was when he placed "You Light Up My Life" in 1976. And he wasn't always consistent in citing Radio & Records even when counting down that chart; often he used Billboard for past data even for years in which R&R existed.

What I've noticed is that his dividing line, so to speak, seems to be Billboard for the 70s, therefore it's not till the 80s where he goes to R&R. I don't yet have a real clear picture on the 80s, though, in that most examples I've heard so far to date have him going back to somewhere in the mid-later 80s (say, 1986 or later) - I can't recall instances of 1983-85, I.E. years that also would have been when he was just starting out.

Really enjoyed the 1998 show. Is anyone else deceased besides Aaliyah and Attrell Cordes? While it wasn't played that week, "Ghetto Supastar" was still on the chart and mentioned. ODB, who was on that song, is also dead.

I'd like to be able to answer that, but the only WT40 show I have around this time is 10/31, which "My Way" had fallen out of the 40 by that point. The only HAC show I have from 1998 happens to be from 10/10, but we obviously won't find it on there. The other two CHR shows are from early in the year, 1/17 and 2/7. If I didn't have all the Casey shows, I'd go after Dees' shows a bit more. I don't know why 1998 tends to be one of the least played years in that decade. I recorded shows for over two years on rick.com before acquiring the Casey shows, and 1998 was not even selected ONCE. (1997 was not featured all that often, either.) I guarantee, if AT40 2.0 sees syndication like the 70s and 80s shows have been, 1998 will likely be featured a bit more often. Again, that's a big IF. 1998 had a lot of memorable hits. That radio remix version happens to be my favorite, which AT40 played, as you mentioned.
