Loved listening to the March 2000 show, lots of great artists and music to kick off the new millennium. And the bonus hour is from February 14, 2015. Interesting. I wonder if they will go with a summer countdown from 2015 this coming summer to keep the trend of playing 2015 going.

KZOY is playing 12/03/1994 this morning. The sure shot is "Headline News" by Weird Al Yankovic. This is the 4th time it has aired in retro-Dees, the most recent being in 12/2018. Weird Al also co-hosted this show. I have this one in my collection. He even says, "The hits wait for no man, or woman, or even Rick Dees, so let's carry on..." 😅 What's up with all the random shows of late? 🤔 I am not sure why Rick's shows have been jumping around the calendar so much lately for his radio audience. I'll see what I can find out and make a post if I learn anything.

The app continues to follow the approach of this week (or close to it) in 1980-, 90-, or 2000-something. It seems odd that they've begun sending different shows to regular radio stations, and odder still that ones from Octobers and Decembers are being played in March.
That is interesting. I'd think that 2015 is probably too recent for retro play as of yet, but there are likely a lot of good songs in there that maybe haven't been played much in the last few years. But it makes sense that more 2010s shows may gradually become part of the official Dees2K rotation.

Also, in the 2000 show there's sort of an unintended tribute to Adam Schlesinger, with the Wonders' "That Thing You Do" (his composition) as an extra in keeping with the show's Oscars-weekend theme. Unintended since this show was selected for this week prior to his death, but I thought it sadly worth noting. It also includes a talk segment with TTYD's Tom Hanks, also a COVID victim but thankfully recovering.

^ And the strange selections of shows continues on radio stations. I am glad we have the app now that almost always follows the calendar year with its selections

The app has switched to April 1, 1989 (SS: "Electric Youth" by Debbie Gibson) and April 7, 2007 ("Beautiful Liar" by Beyonce and Shakira). 90s hasn't changed yet.

^This was a GREAT show! 1995 is one of my favorite years for music during that decade, and I believe that this was the first time it's been offered. I missed it when it originally aired in 1995 since my local Top 40 station had flipped to a rock-alternative format about a year earlier. Anyway, some great dance hits like "Come Back," "The Rhythm of the Night," "Cotton Eye Joe," "Get Ready For This" and "Run Away." Only one of the artists from this show is on his most recent chart, Jenny B from Corona (not Olga Souza who's in the video and who Rick mentioned), who's uncredited on The Black Eyed Peas' hit "RITMO." And possibly we'll see Billie Joe Armstrong in the near future with his remake of "I Think We're Alone Now." Green Day was at #4 with "When I Come Around." Skipped songs include "Here Comes The Hostepper" and "Another Night." "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was played as a tribute to Kurt Cobain who'd died a year earlier. One of my favorite features of the '90s was "#1 On Your Birthday." To my surprise, he announced and played a piece of the #1 song from 65 years ago in 1930, "The Stein Song" by Rudy Vallee. I don't remember him ever going back that far in this segment. Although it reminded me of the time in 2001 when Casey Kasem announced the #1 song from 100 years ago while going into a commercial break. Some notable artists who've died in the 25 years since include Lisa Lopes of TLC, Tom Petty, Glenn Frey of The Eagles (who was the mystery voice in the Challenge answer) and Dolores O'Riordan of The Cranberries. And probably more that I've overlooked. Before playing the #1 song by Dionne Farris, Rick started to play Dion's song "Runaround Sue" as a joke.
