Is it me or did I notice Rick Dees sound very much older, unlike early 2010s? I know that was mentioned several times in awhile. But I just want to mention again...

yes older and more subdued. with most of those characters that he had coming on spicing up the show in the 80s and 90s long gone, maybe all of them gone in fact.

I doubt his voice has changed that much in seven years, but haven't been following it closely. In any case, he was 60 in 2010 and 67 now so maybe that's not surprising. (Rick is still four years younger than Casey was when he stopped doing AT40.) I actually think most of those "characters" in his old countdowns were distractions that usually weren't particularly funny, so not much mourning their loss. I'd rather hear him talk about or to the artists and their songs.

Listening to the 2010 show and I don't know if Rick meant big sister in the sense of the 'big brother/big sister' thing where someone is a mentor to someone else. Or when he said that Shontell was a big sister to Rihanna that he meant that she is the big sister sibling to her. As far as I can tell after looking at wikipedia and Joel Whitburn's Pop book, they are not related. Shontell is also from Barbados and is 3 years older than Rihanna. Also of note is that this week Ryan Seacrest said if Miley Cyrus makes AT40 with her breakout hit, she will join Noah Cyrus in the 40 to become the first sisters on AT40 together since Jessica and Ashleigh Simpson in 2004. Well if Rihanna and Shontell were sisters, they would have accomplished that feat around the time of this Dees show in 2010. I did not realize Mariah covered "I Want to Know What Love Is". I listened to the show Sunday evening on KKMK and the way Rick worded it, it did sound like Rihanna and Shontell were step-siblings. I also googled 'Shontell and Rihanna' because I seemed to remember a story about Shontell being Rihanna's drill instructor in Barbados before either of them was famous and I did find that story. Rihanna was also mentoring Shontell on an album release at about this time, so Rick may have been referring to that.

You are right. They played a couple songs that did not even chart at R&R/Mediabase..."Nobody Said it was Easy" and "I Will Fix You", the last 2. btw, mjl gets his wish this week...that bonus show from 1989 is this week's 80s show.

Edit once again: if you read the start of this post, Hour 1 Part 1 in the D2K show starts with number 30, which is really segment Hour 2, part 1, then the show continues with hour 1, it seems there is an error with the 1st segment of the D2K show. Now is fixed. Last edit. The bonus hour show. yes it is january, but 2009 january , no 2003. Bonus Hour show is January 17, 2009 HAC from second hour. As of today when i listened correct it is jan 17, 2009HAC for all top 30 for bonus track after 2000s, and current shows. -------------- I have a question: when Coldplay is doing medley of songs top 10, what other songs are played, other than A Sky Full of Stars, Paradise, Viva La Vida, Clocks, Yellow? I don't think he even played Adventures of a Lifetime and Hymn for a Weekend, since that was also recent in top 10. I tried many times, but I couldn't get what rest of unknown songs in medley Does anybody know? Thanks

As far as I can tell, kani listed the first few songs in the Coldplay medley. Only missing the last 2 songs which are "Nobody Said It Was Easy" and "I Will try to Fix You". Neither made the top 10 on any reputable chart. not even sure if they ever made it onto the WT40 except as some kind of extra or sure shot. So I just heard the 1993 show from the 90s this week. Skips the first 3 songs in the show. First intuition was to think that was the only time he did that. But 1993 seems to have Rick in a skipping mood so I am guessing it happened other times. Skipped Jade, Dr. Dre and Green Jelly. Do not know the Green Jelly song or why he skipped it. Appears not to be rap and neither is "Knockin Da Boots" that he skipped later on. Guess he skips songs if they have a title that sounds rap. Whatever. Why didn't he skip the over played and over ranked "Two Princes"? Fave 2 songs in this show might be the Taylor Dayne and Rod Stewart songs, both covers. Except for the pair by SWV and Janet. Those are my 5 fave songs in the show.

And there is another song that is unknown to me, I can guess "In My Place". In my knowledge, they never even played Speed of Sound and Talk (even though these two already were in top 20) When I want to turn on the app in my ipad as of today afternoon, it's not even loading for me. I'm getting the error saying, "Unfortunately Hit Music has stopped". I don't get it, it was working for me last night.

Edit:
In Rick's site:
Earlier this morning (Friday, June 9, 2017), Server Support detected that one of the domains that a portion of BYO’s hosting services utilizes for specific app functionality was compromised, and unable to provide service. That in turn affected the ability for both the BYOChannel and Rick Dees Hit Music apps to launch for some registered Users in various regions across the United States.
We are aware of the issue and are doing all possible to resolve the issue to get both apps back online as soon as is feasibly possible.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
